Job Description
The housing crisis doesn't pause — and neither does our client. This is a company solving one of the most urgent infrastructure problems in America: the need for rapidly deployable, durable, code-certified modular housing at scale. From disaster relief operations to workforce housing programs to municipal initiatives, their product is already in the field, ICC-ES certified, and built to perform in conditions most structures can't survive. What they're missing is the person who can open the doors that matter most — and close them.
As Director of Government Sales, you won't be handed a warm pipeline. You'll be the one building it. This is a ground-floor opportunity at a company on a steep growth trajectory, with a product that sells itself to the right buyer — and a mission that gives the work real weight.
What You'll Own
- Build and manage a pipeline of government sales opportunities at the federal, state, and municipal level — targeting agencies involved in disaster response, emergency housing, workforce development, and public infrastructure
- Cultivate and maintain executive-level relationships with procurement officials, agency leads, and key government stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions
- Identify and qualify new opportunities, navigate procurement processes, and drive contracts from initial engagement through close
- Represent the organization at government industry events, conferences, and agency meetings — this role requires travel and presence
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations and leadership to ensure delivery commitments align with what's being sold
- Contribute to longer-term strategy as the company scales toward additional government funding channels, including federal grants and public-sector financing programs
Requirements
- A proven track record of selling to government — you've navigated procurement cycles, built agency relationships, and closed contracts at the state and/or federal level
- Deep familiarity with how government buyers buy: budget cycles, procurement requirements, contract vehicles, and how to stay in front of the right people
- The instincts of a builder — you're energized by a blank-slate pipeline, not intimidated by it
- Comfort operating in a startup environment where resources are lean, urgency is real, and your contributions are visible
- Strong communication and relationship skills — you know how to earn trust with bureaucratic stakeholders without losing momentum
- California government relationships are a significant plus; experience with FEMA, HUD, or disaster relief procurement is highly relevant
- Willingness to travel as needed to cultivate and advance key opportunities
Benefits
- Competitive base salary with flexible compensation structure — the organization is open to performance-based arrangements for the right candidate
- Remote flexibility with preference for candidates based in or willing to spend time in the Greater San Diego area
- Ground-floor equity potential at a company actively pursuing a public offering trajectory
- The chance to build something that matters — this organization's product is deployed in disaster zones, underserved communities, and workforce housing projects where it makes a direct difference
- A leadership role that grows with the company — additional C-suite and senior hires are planned as the organization scales
The compensation structure for this position is pending final client approval. Target base salary and variable compensation details will be confirmed and shared with candidates who advance to the interview stage.
