Job Description

Primary Purpose: This position is part of the Masonic Homes Kentucky Management Team, responsible for the creation of resident-focused, high performance, high-commitment work teams.  The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the quality delivery of resident services and supervising the caregivers and clinical nursing-staff members.

Qualifications/Skills Needed:

·         Candidate must possess an active RN or LPN nursing license.

·         Candidates with five years of experience in senior living or senior services preferred.

·         Experience in staff supervision required. Strong verbal and written communications skills, as well as excellent organization and interpersonal skills.

·         Be proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook E-mail and Internet Explorer.          

·         Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability required.

Primary Duties (Essential Functions) include but are not limited to:

Resident Focused Duties:

  •  Work with the Executive Director in building relationships and strong communication with residents and families to aid in their adjustment and identification of the resident’s needs
  • Assist with developing and oversite of an appropriate care plan reflective of resident needs. Participate in care plan conferences to discuss the residents’ status and review and update appropriate care plans, including medication regimen.
  •  Responsible for the orientation, new hire and ongoing training, competency checks, communication, supervision.
  •  Meet with caregivers and clinical staff members to discuss performance as needed.
  •  Complete evaluations on caregivers and clinical staff under the guidance of the Executive Director.
  •  Ensure successful implementation of clinical policies, procedures and programs within the guidelines of state regulations and community policies.
  • Responsible for the scheduling of caregivers and clinical staff under his /him supervision, call-in coverage, and work/shift assignments, on-call duties per direction of the Executive Director.
  •  Assist with sales process by assessment and education of potential residents, families and third party providers/referral sources as needed
  • Ensure that appropriate staff counseling and disciplinary actions occur in conjunction with the Executive Director and or Director of Human Resources.
  • Monitor resident’s care needs and Inform Executive Director of any concerns or changes related to the residents’ physical, cognitive, or emotional wellbeing that may affect the level of care and service resident needs.
  • Ensure accurate Medication Administration Records (MARS), communicate medication changes to the pharmacy, and conduct audits of Medication Administration Records, medication carts, medication refrigerators, treatment carts and medication cart(s) as indicated.
  • Assist in the scheduling of ancillary services such as therapies, pharmacy consultation, labs, x-ray and other outside medical services.
  • Communication and coordinate with physician’s and Medical Director to insure the medical needs of the residents are met.
  • Develop and maintain coordination of nursing services with other needed services to ensure residents overall needs are met.
  • Monitor nursing documentation to ensure accurate and complete as necessary to be reflective of resident’s needs and meets
  • Provide leadership and necessary support during surveys / audits by governmental agencies.
  • Ensure recommendations provided by a registered dietician is addressed in a timely manner
  • Oversite of wound program that includes but not limited to weekly measurements and documentation.
  • Assist with investigations such as abuse and grievances under the guidance of the Executive Director and the state regulation and statues.

Administrative Duties / Staff Management:

·         Ensure community maintains a current inventory and replenish resident care supplies as needed.

·         Assist Human Resource Director and or Executive Director in completing Workers’ Compensation paperwork, modified duty and Employer First Report of Injury as necessary in the absence of the Executive Director or Human Resource Director.

·         Manage caregiver’s and licensed nurses hours by conducting a regular review of time clock and labor reports.

·         Assist with development, maintaining and management of budget for nursing services.

·         Plan and carry out special duties or projects as assigned by the Executive Director.

Other Duties and Work Environment

·         Attend or complete (CEUs) in-service education programs in order to meet Community and licensure educational requirements.

·         Responsible for implementing and managing an Infection Control plan that includes an Exposure Control Plan.

·         Responsible for implementing Disaster Plan, and Fire Drill & Evacuation Procedures.

·         Maintain confidentiality of resident, employee and community records/information.

·         Protect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuse.

·         Assist with the protection of personal property of the residents of the community.

·         Subject to frustrations in meeting work demands due to frequent interruptions.

·         Fast paced, required to make decisions quickly and thoughtful.

·         Involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.

·         Expected work beyond normal business hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.

·         Subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, staffing crisis etc.).

·         May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

·         Other duties as directed by Executive Director
