Job Description

Summary: The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the delivery of nursing care across the inpatient campus, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and fostering a high-quality care environment. In partnership with the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director holds primary responsibility for 24/7 nursing care delivery, maintaining oversight and accountability for nursing staff within inpatient behavioral health settings. This leadership role involves collaborating with nursing staff, inpatient leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans that meet the needs of patients. The Director offers guidance, supervision, and support to nursing leaders and staff, including mental health technicians (MHTs), while overseeing the scheduling team to ensure adequate staffing levels. The Director leads initiatives to improve patient care quality, ensures compliance with organizational policies and best practices, and plays a key role in staff development, incident management, and fostering a culture of compassion and accountability across all inpatient behavioral health services.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight of nursing operations for all inpatient behavioral health services at the campus.
  • Oversee the scheduling team’s operations, ensuring efficient staffing practices and appropriate coverage for inpatient behavioral health services during operational hours. Collaborate with nursing leadership to address staffing needs and optimize shift assignments for smooth daily operations.
  • Mentor and coach nursing leaders and staff to support professional growth and team engagement.
  • Develop, implement, and review standardized nursing procedures, workflows, and policies to promote consistency, efficiency, and adherence to best practices across inpatient behavioral health services. Ensure that these procedures and policies are updated as needed and aligned with current standards and regulations.
  • Partner with Nursing Services Education to oversee and enhance training programs for both new and existing staff, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as The Joint Commission standards.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timely completion of medical records and nursing documentation in inpatient behavioral health services, adhering to designated time frames and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to support comprehensive treatment planning as needed.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements, including those set by The Joint Commission, CMS, state, and other relevant local and national agencies.
  • Promote regulatory compliance by educating staff on standards and monitoring adherence to guidelines.
  • Respond to and follow up on significant events, patient grievances, complaints, and allegations of abuse as needed by reviewing records, conducting investigative interviews, and ensuring patient rights are upheld. Complete any necessary follow-up documentation as required by state and regulatory guidelines, in collaboration with appropriate leadership and relevant teams.
  • Manage department needs within the budgeting process, ensuring adherence to FTE, capital, and operational budgets, while explaining variances and their impact, with a focus on maintaining patient safety and care quality.
  • Participate in hospital committees, contributing to discussions and initiatives that support organizational goals and improvements.
  • Engage in quality and process improvement initiatives to enhance nursing operations and patient care delivery.
  • Lead and support safety initiatives within the inpatient behavioral health setting to proactively enhance safety standards and improve the overall care environment.
  • Represent the department in professional settings, including community outreach, seminars, and marketing efforts.
  • Foster a positive and professional work environment, maintaining open communication and addressing concerns constructively.
  • Uphold and promote the mission and values of Rogers Behavioral Health through effective leadership and collaboration.
  • Promote organizational goals by keeping staff informed of key initiatives, ensuring alignment with objectives, and fostering effective communication.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.

Additional Job Description:

Education/Training Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or in a related field required minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory/management role with two (2) years in behavioral health.
  • Master’s degree in nursing or a related field preferred.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescue is required within thirty (30) days of date of hire. Annual re-certification is required.
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient within sixty (60) days of date of hire. Annual re-certification is required.
Registered Nurse Board Certified- Cert, Registered Nurse- Cert
