Job Description

Pay Range:$65.73 - $92.22 $25K Sign On and $10K Relocation for qualified hire! The Specialty Director of Nursing provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for specialty ambulatory nursing services. This role ensures consistent, high-quality nursing practice across specialty services while optimizing clinical operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and aligning nursing services with organizational goals, mission, and values. The Specialty Director partners closely with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Ambulatory Services, Medical Directors, Clinic Administrators, and interdisciplinary leaders to improve patient outcomes, clinic flow, staff engagement, and the overall patient experience.Reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) – Ambulatory Services.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

Clinical & Operational Leadership:

  • Provides leadership for Specialty ambulatory nursing departments, ensuring safe, patient-centered care.
  • Establishes and maintains nursing practice standards across specialty services.
  • Oversees clinical workflows, staffing models, and patient care delivery systems.Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance:
  • Leads quality improvement initiatives and patient safety activities.
  • Ensures compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, HRSA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Maintains continuous survey readiness across specialty services.Financial & Resource Management:
  • Oversees departmental budgets and financial performance.
  • Monitors productivity, staffing efficiency, and supply utilization.
  • Participates in strategic resource planning and cost containment initiatives.Leadership & Professional Development:
  • Recruits, mentors, and develops nursing leaders and staff.
  • Oversees orientation, education, and competency validation.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and addresses performance or conduct concerns.Collaboration & System Integration:
  • Serves as liaison between nursing, physicians, administrators, and support departments.
  • Represents nursing on leadership councils and interdisciplinary committees.
  • Supports organizational strategic initiatives and emergency preparedness.

    Additional Details:

    Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

    • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.

    • Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or other U.S. state required.

    • Must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before start date.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

  • Experience Required

    • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive nursing leadership or management experience.

    • Supervisory experience in ambulatory, specialty, or complex clinical environments preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Advanced clinical nursing knowledge and judgment.

    • Strong leadership, coaching, and change management skills.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines and departments.
