Job Description

Position Summary

The director of nursing is a Registered Professional Nurse who has clinical and administrative responsibility for the management of the Ambulatory Surgery Center in which nursing care is directly and/or indirectly provided. He/she shall be responsible for the direction, provision, and quality of Nursing Services provided to the patient.

Essential Job functions

  • Maintain awareness of professional issues at the local, state, and national levels that impact the delivery of patient care

  • Coordinates equipment, conflicts, block time, and anticipates vacation schedules

  • Implementation and/or revision of ASC policies to improve quality and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies

  • Ensures that all personnel are assigned duties based on their education, training, and competency of job description

  • Oversees the quality improvement committee and the infection prevention committee

  • Participates in root cause analysis

  • Meets on a regular basis with the medical director of the ASC to review and revise goals

  • Communicates effectively to facilitate working relationships and achieve desired outcomes

  • Communicates appropriate information upward

  • Relates effectively to all center staff

  • Conducts monthly staff meetings and maintains open channels of communication with staff

  • Attends and participates in meetings with other members of the patient care team for problem solving, planning programs, and establishing standards or patient care

  • Reports problems and significant events promptly and accurately to the Medical Director and Vice President of Amb. Surgery

  • Interviews, evaluates, and selects candidates for employment

  • Ensures all assigned nursing stuff have annual performance evaluations utilizing information from appropriate sources

  • Consoles appropriately as necessary, handles disciplinary action, reports and recommends discharge when indicated

  • Facilitates the orientation of all clinical staff

  • Responsible for hiring, supervising, and development of all levels of staff

  • Supervise, coach, mentor, train and evaluate work results

  • Coordinates operative schedule making necessary changes and arrangements to accommodate emergencies, added operations, or deviations in the schedule

  • Supervises the transfer of admission of patients to the holding area and coordinates patient flow to and from the operating room ensuring communication during the process

  • Evaluates nursing intervention and follows through with needed modification

  • Maintains a guide of surgeon's requirements for specific types of operations with relevant information regarding surgical anatomy and required equipment

  • Demonstrates knowledge of budgeting and control by preparing, monitoring, and reviewing budgets periodically to ensure cost containment. Responsible for Inventory control, purchasing and supply chain management to maximize cost savings and just in time inventory controls.

  • In service instructions on procedures or new equipment

  • Maintenance and updating of policies and procedures

  • Maintenance of all equipment

  • Project management of Clinical Information Systems

  • Regulatory Compliance

  • Housekeeping

  • Traffic Control

  • Fire and Safety training

  • Delivery of Pathology specimens

  • Maintaining employee records certification

  • Overseeing quality assurance and performance improvement program

  • Responsible for Payroll

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Sitting and standing for long periods of time

Environmental Risks:

  • Allergens: dust, mold and/or pollen

  • Combative Patients / Visitors

Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:

  • Current State RN license required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, required, Master's Degree preferred

  • 5+ years Managerial experience in ASC preferred

  • Ambulatory Care Nurse Certification Preferred

  • Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.

  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to perform diversified duties with time limitations with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Experience with Standard Office Equipment (phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail)

  • Experience with Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment.

Travel - 10% travel between Summit Health locations

Pay Range: $128,500.00 - $160,700.00 Annual

The provided compensation range is based on industry standards and salary determinations will be made based on numerous factors including but not limited to years of experience and location of position.
