Director of Social Work

Reporting to the Chief Well-Being Officer, the Director of Social Work (Director 4) will support Kean University's mission by overseeing campus and community services that foster student persistence and well-being. This role involves supervising a team of social workers and professional staff who help students access vital resources and cultivate a strong sense of belonging, ultimately enhancing their daily lives and overall student experience. The Director will support a team of employees who will connect students with essential campus and community support for social, economic, emotional, and behavioral challenges, including issues related to food insecurity, housing, financial well-being, life skills development and family crises. Additionally, the Director will serve as a resource for Kean faculty and staff through community engagement and expansion of basic need services to promote student success and graduation.

The Director collaborates with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, the Wellness Center, the Division of Student Success and Retention and other faculty and staff across the Kean University community. This role provides essential support services to students, fostering individual success and belonging. Responsibilities also include research, maintaining department data, preparing budgets and generating reports.

This position requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours. Travel is also required, including travel to Kean’s New Jersey campus locations. This is an on-campus position requiring a flexible physical presence across all campus locations as determined by leadership.

Qualifications: MSW degree and two or more years of social work experience with increasing responsibility is required.  LSW or LCSW and experience in higher education, crisis intervention and/or student wellness is preferred. Candidate must have experience with program development and implementation; experience in working with at risk populations, behavior intervention teams, trauma response and/or community engagement; excellent oral and written communication skills; and proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms.

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Law, the annual salary range for this position is: $95,000 to $105,000. This position may also be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, a retirement plan and benefits for work life balance. Employment at Kean requires working at any of our New Jersey campus locations or affiliated work sites, which may include, but not be limited to: the main campus in Union; Kean Ocean in Toms River; Kean Skylands in Jefferson Township; Kean Jersey City; Kean at Brookdale in Middletown Township; Manahawkin; Princeton; and Trenton.  Location assignments will be based on operational and university needs. Faculty may also be assigned to teach online classes for Kean Global.
