Job Description
Talon Hiring Solutions has a client in the Greater Birmingham, AL area seeking a Director of Software Product to lead the strategy, development, integration, and optimization of its enterprise software and product data systems. This leadership role will serve as the primary technical authority for Syspro ERP and Product Information Management (PIM), driving process automation, system integration, data integrity, and operational efficiency across manufacturing, supply chain, inventory, and distribution functions.
What You'll Do
- Lead Software Solutions and Project Delivery: Identify, scope, and manage projects that automate workflows, improve business processes, and enhance existing systems or introduce new applications. Translate business needs into functional requirements, technical designs, data models, and acceptance criteria.
- Oversee Development and Integrations: Partner with software developers throughout design, development, testing, and deployment to ensure solutions are accurate, scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business objectives. Design and oversee integrations between Syspro, PIM, ecommerce, CRM, and third-party systems using APIs, EDI, and middleware.
- Own Syspro ERP and PIM Platforms: Serve as the senior technical expert for Syspro ERP and the PIM platform, overseeing system configuration, customization, reporting, workflows, product data, and integrations. Manage PIM data models, attributes, enrichment workflows, and product information distribution across ecommerce, wholesale, and contract channels.
- Configure and Optimize Business Applications: Perform hands-on Syspro configuration and enhancements, including security roles, custom forms, VBScript, workflows, business objects, and reporting. Administer Datascope and warehouse management systems (WMS), supporting barcode scanning, mobile data collection, receiving, picking, packing, and shipping processes.
- Manage Data, Reporting, and System Performance: Write and optimize SQL Server queries, stored procedures, views, and functions. Troubleshoot performance issues, resolve data integrity concerns, and establish standards for product and master data accuracy, costing, pricing, and item lifecycle management.
- Drive Product Data Quality: Establish and enforce data standards across Syspro and PIM. Oversee data entry and validation processes for new product introductions and seasonal launches, implementing automation to improve accuracy, reduce manual work, and accelerate time to market.
- Manage Projects and Technology Investments: Collaborate with the CIO to evaluate build-versus-buy decisions, develop return-on-investment (ROI) business cases, and manage projects from planning through implementation and go-live. Ensure projects meet established timelines, budgets, quality standards, and business objectives.
- Maintain and Support Critical Systems: Lead Syspro upgrades, patching, and regression testing. Provide escalated technical support, conduct root cause analysis, and maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, integrations, workflows, and technical processes.
- Lead and Develop the Team: Supervise and develop three direct reports: Syspro Analyst, PIM Administrator/Developer, and Data Analyst. Set priorities, establish accountability, provide coaching and technical mentorship, manage performance, and support hiring and development. Ensure critical system knowledge is documented and shared across the team.
- Measure Business Impact: Track process improvement and automation results, including hours saved, project delivery performance, product and master data accuracy, time to publish new products, application availability, and resolution of escalated incidents.
What You'll Bring

- 7+ years of experience working with enterprise business applications, including at least 4 years of deep, hands-on Syspro experience involving configuration, customization, data models, and technical troubleshooting.

- Hands-on experience with a PIM platform or comparable product data management solution, including data modeling, attributes, workflows, enrichment, and channel syndication.
- Experience in manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, distribution, or another product-based business environment.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver software applications, system enhancements, and process automation solutions based on business requirements.
