Job Description

Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) has created some of New York’s most beloved restaurants, cafes, and bars, which offer outstanding food delivered with our signature warmth and hospitality. Founded by Danny Meyer with the opening of Union Square Cafe in 1985, the company now extends beyond the walls of its eateries.

USHG has long supported its communities through hunger relief and civic organizations. USHG holds 28 James Beard Awards and numerous accolades for its distinctive style of hospitality.

Who you are:

The Director of Supply Chain and Food Safety will lead and execute supply chain and procurement strategy across Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) businesses. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong communication and presentation skills, capable of collaborating with senior leadership while also diving deep into operational issues. This role will lead sourcing, procurement, distribution strategy, and vendor partnerships across our restaurant portfolio, while fostering cross-functional collaboration between culinary, operations, finance, and external partners.

What you'll do:

  • Consistently support a culture of Enlightened Hospitality
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement process to drive commercial value aligned with program goals.
  • Oversee all procurement activities for both food and non-food categories, including Proteins, Dairy, Produce, Bakery, Beverage, Chemicals, Packaging, FF&E, and Service Contracts.
  • Create formal supplier relationships that drive innovation, efficiency, and cost savings.
  • Lead the negotiation and management of enterprise-wide supplier contracts in collaboration with Legal and operational teams.
  • Establish supplier evaluation and management programs, including performance metrics, KPIs, and continuous improvement goals.
  • Ensure all food and non-food suppliers, including third-party manufacturing facilities, meet or exceed USHG’s Food Health and Safety standards.
  • Oversee compliance with food safety protocols, regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USDA), and internal quality control procedures across the supply chain.
  • Lead the execution and communication of product recalls, withdrawals, or safety-related incidents in partnership with QA and Operations.
  • Maintain proper documentation of food safety certifications, third-party audits, and regulatory inspections for suppliers and manufacturing partners.
  • Supervise third-party manufacturing facilities to ensure they align with USHG standards for food safety, quality, and ethical production.
  • Conduct or coordinate site visits, audits, and operational reviews of manufacturing and distribution partners as needed.
  • Work closely with culinary, legal, and operations teams to define specifications and monitor product consistency, shelf life, labeling, and traceability.
  • Partner with third-party facilities to identify and resolve safety, quality, and production concerns proactively.
  • Optimize central and unit-level procurement processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Support data-driven decision-making through the analysis of pricing, cost models, and industry trends.
  • Drive resolution of supply chain disruptions or delays, ensuring continuity of supply.
  • Develop and manage RFPs, RFIs, SOWs, and contract exceptions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Establish and ensure compliance with purchasing policies and best practices across all business units.

What we need from you:

  • At least 5 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management in food service, hospitality, CPG, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing direct reports, with the ability to influence senior leaders across Legal, Operations, HR, Technology, and Marketing.
  • Demonstrated success in vendor management, strategic sourcing, and negotiation
  • Knowledge of food safety standards, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance practices
  • Experience overseeing third-party manufacturing facilities and co-packers a plus

What you’ll get from us:

At Union Square Hospitality Group, we believe our people are our greatest ingredient. Joining our team means becoming part of a culture rooted in care, creativity, and growth. As the Director of Supply Chain and Food Safety, you’ll enjoy:
