Job Description

The Director of Specialty Pharmacy is responsible for the oversight of the specialty pharmacy service line for the health system. This includes supply chain, revenue cycle, 340B program management, regulatory compliance, contracting, financial management and personnel management for the Deaconess Health System. This position is responsible for the integration of specialty pharmacy services across the system, including budget preparation and fiscal responsibility and regulatory compliance with all accrediting bodies, state, federal, and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.

What you will do

  • Collaborate with Administration on planning, organizing and directing the Specialty Pharmacy operations and ensuring compliance

  • Collaborates with the Chief Pharmacy Officer and other System Directors of Pharmacy to develop proactive business, operational, clinical, market growth, services development and 340B / payor strategies.

  • FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:

  • Prepares/reviews annual capital equipment, personnel, and expense budgets for the system specialty pharmacy departments.

  • Responsible for effective and efficient fiscal management to ensure proper utilization of organizations and financial resources. Reviews/reports budget variances monthly.

  • Negotiates contracts and makes decisions regarding the purchase of pharmaceuticals and supplies.

  • Maintains department productivity system. Monitors productivity system for variances.

  • Provides direction to clinical staff regarding cost effective use of drugs and protocol development.

  • Evaluates current and new programs for cost effectiveness and quality value.

  • Develop and participate in 340B initiatives related to specialty pharmacy.

  • Achieves financial and budgetary goals.

  • Adheres to procedures regarding the acquisition of, and payment for goods and services as evidence by appropriate and timely processing of requisitions and invoices.

  • QUALITY, SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

  • Translates the organizations initiatives into realistic department goals and objectives that support Deaconess' mission, vision and goals.

  • Assures regulatory and payer compliance for specialty requirements.

  • Participates in hospital committees and quality improvement teams

  • Delegates authority and responsibility to personnel

  • Initiates, interprets, and enforces policy and procedures to ensure patient safety

  • Responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of performance improvement and CQI activities

  • Oversees staff education with an emphasis on patient safety and organizational performance improvement

  • Ensures quality, safety, and compliance assessments systems are in place for areas for supervision and promote continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Communicates or disseminates Deaconess Performance indicators to staff and solicits input for corrective action if appropriate.

  • Establishes internal control procedures for the department.

  • BUILDING CUSTOMER LOYALTY

  • Interacts professionally with patients and families. Is a resource for Patient Relations and responds timely to issues to mitigate complaints quickly

  • Communicates appropriately with hospital staff and physicians

  • Utilizes information and feedback from various sources such as: satisfaction surveys, rounding, opinion tools, and community assessments to build employee, physician and patient loyalty

  • Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow-through, communication and service recovery

  • Engages, manages, and develops staff to utilize their full potential in alignment with mission, vision, and strategic initiatives.

  • Consistently and fairly administers Human Resources and other policies to build credibility and trust of staff as well as compliance with applicable laws.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Pharmacy Required or Doctoral Degree of Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy- Required
  • Master's degree Business Administration or Healthcare Administration- Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years' relevant experience health system pharmacy or relevant work experience- Required
  • Minimum of five years' relevant experience of ambulatory or specialty pharmacy management and/or 340B program experience- Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Pharmacist license in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky- Required
  • Must be licensed or qualify for license in the State of Indiana. Employment is contingent upon eligibility and completion of licensure within 45 days of employment- Required
  • Must not have any records or convictions involving any form of chemical dependency, felony, or any adverse actions pending by any Board of Pharmacy- Required
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification (CSP, BCACP, BCPS, etc.)- Preferred
