Job Description
As Director, Product Management, Liquids, you will develop product strategy. This includes multi‑year roadmaps achieving sustainable growth, margin expansion, and competitive differentiation. This applies across the portfolio, including Waterborne and Solvent borne paint, Epoxy, and Methyl Methacrylate. You lead the full lifecycle—portfolio analysis, complexity reduction, product development, multigenerational planning, and end‑of‑life management. Success requires leadership and influence within a matrixed organization. You will partner with commercial, R&D, operations, and sales teams to accomplish multiple goals including leading Gate Reviews, launching products, supporting customer trials, and driving segmentation programs. You partner with the Product Director, Materials to support strategy development across markets, ensuring clear positioning and understanding of features, cost, and benefits. In collaboration with the Portfolio Manager–Liquids and Pricing teams, you develop communications, sales tools, training, and digital assets highlighting performance and competitive advantage. You are also accountable for optimizing range complexity, accelerating growth in priority segments, and delivering New Product Sales targets through well‑justified, well‑resourced, and managed projects.
You will work out of the Greensboro, NC office or the Pittsburgh, PA Corporate office and will report to the Director Global Marketing and Specialty.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop product portfolio strategy, including value propositions, market positioning, financial performance analysis, and multi‑year product roadmaps.
- Lead product development activities by collaborating with R&D to assess new technologies, prioritize formula revisions, and lead new product launches.
- Conduct market and competitive analysis, including segmentation, SWOT evaluation, and monitoring industry, PPG, and competitor actions to position the portfolio.
- Manage new product launches end‑to‑end, including gate reviews, COMPASS entry, business cases, project management, customer trials, labeling, and coordination with the Portfolio Manager and supporting functions
- Manage product lifecycle management, establishing end‑of‑life criteria, evaluating candidates, communicating transitions and replacement solutions. Ensure the supply of product ideas entering the product development funnel by nurturing new product brainstorming sources.
- Guide complexity reduction programs, providing analysis and plans to improve the portfolio and improve profitability.
- Oversee execution of product strategy, ensuring understanding of business strategy, NPD, and product lifecycle goals.
- Be the central cross‑functional coordinator, aligning company partners around product plans and execution requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, engineering, chemistry, or related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of product development, strategic marketing, or product or portfolio management experience.
- Strong market intelligence capability, including gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing diverse data sources into clear market assessments.
- Interpersonal abilities to effectively collaborate and influence across a highly matrixed, cross‑functional organization.
- Experience communicating complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences, with the ability to present complex information, influence partners, and engage directly with customers at all levels.
- Creative and critical thinker with business and technical experience to identify, evaluate, and execute new opportunities.
- Process-oriented mindset, with the ability to improve processes and apply structured decision-making.
- Robust organizational and project management skills and experience managing multiple simultaneous projects.
