General Description/Primary Purpose:

The University of North Florida invites applications for the full-time Director position of the School of Nursing in the Brooks College of Health. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, adaptability, and the ability to effectively manage the complex requirements of a large School of Nursing which encompasses undergraduate nursing, online RN-BSN, MSN in Leadership, and DNP programs in family nurse practitioner, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, and nurse anesthesia.

Job Functions:

The Director of the School of Nursing reports to the Dean of the Brooks College of Health and has primary administrative responsibility for the leadership, management, and operation of the School of Nursing (SON), including oversight of faculty and staff. The Director provides strategic, academic, fiscal, and operational leadership to advance the mission and goals of the School, College, and University.

The Director is responsible for leading and ensuring the effective execution of the following duties:

Faculty and Staff LeadershipRecruit, hire, supervise, evaluate, develop, and retain highly qualified faculty and staff of sufficient number and expertise to fulfill the mission of the School of Nursing, College, and University.

Program Development and Community EngagementDevelop, evaluate, and promote high-quality academic programs that respond to workforce and community needs, in collaboration with faculty, the Dean, and the Associate Dean.

Academic Quality and ExcellenceMaintain and enhance the quality of teaching, research/scholarly activity, and service within the School of Nursing.

Accreditation and ComplianceOversee and support accreditation processes by assisting assistant directors, program directors, faculty, and staff in the preparation of required documentation and ensuring continued accreditation compliance.

Research and Scholarly EnvironmentFoster and sustain an environment in which research and scholarly activity are recognized as integral components of the academic mission.

Faculty Development and AdvancementSupport faculty orientation, mentoring, and professional growth, including promotion and tenure processes.

Fiscal Planning and Resource AllocationEstablish fiscal priorities for the School of Nursing in collaboration with faculty, the Dean, the Associate Dean, and Development Officers.

Budget and Facilities ManagementManage School of Nursing budgets, resources, and facilities to ensure effective, efficient, and fiscally responsible operations aligned with School and College goals.

Strategic Vision and PlanningProvide leadership and vision for faculty and staff and develop, implement, and assess a strategic plan for the School of Nursing.

Program Growth and InnovationDevelop innovative strategies to meet increasing programmatic demands while integrating the needs and interests of the community and healthcare partners.

Clinical Partnerships and Affiliation AgreementsEnsure adequate clinical placement opportunities for undergraduate students and graduate preceptors through affiliation agreements and sustained partnerships with community and clinical agencies.

Staff Supervision and DevelopmentSupervise office and support staff and promote opportunities for professional development and growth.

Communication and Shared GovernanceMaintain open, effective, and transparent communication through regular meetings with faculty, staff, students, and administrative leadership.

Policy ImplementationImplement and ensure compliance with School of Nursing, College, and University policies and procedures.

Academic Administration and ReportingEnsure coordination of curriculum changes across relevant university entities and oversee the timely completion of faculty activity reports, course schedules, teaching assignments, program reviews, and other required reports.

Evaluation and Performance ManagementConduct annual evaluations, tenure appraisals, and performance reviews for School of Nursing faculty and staff, as appropriate.

Advancement and Donor RelationsCultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors to support the mission and advancement of the School of Nursing.

Advisory Board LeadershipFacilitate and support meetings of the Nursing Advisory Board, composed of leaders from the nursing and healthcare community.

Required Qualifications:

• Doctoral Degree in Nursing

• National certification in Nursing

• Five or more years of combined teaching and/or leadership in a department/school/college of nursing.

• Appointable as Associate or Full Professor with eligibility for graduate faculty status

Preferred Qualifications / Skills:

• Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, faculty supervision, and budget management

• Previous experience as chair/director of nursing school/college.

• Experience with accreditation from AACN and /or other accreditors

• Record of published work in refereed journals

• Demonstrated experience in distance and/or hybrid education

• Experience representing a school/college/university in a professional manner at internal and external meetings, presentations, and other events.

Supervisor: This position will report to the Dean of the Brooks College of Health.

Required Licensure: National certification in Nursing

Anticipated Start Date: The position is expected to begin on July 6, 2026.
