Distribution Center Warehouse Custodian

Pet Food Express is seeking a Warehouse Custodian who can work both independently and as part of a team to support efficient operations and provide a clean, safe and organized environment for employees and visitors within our Distribution Center (DC).

The Warehouse Custodian performs routine custodial and housekeeping duties throughout the DC including breakrooms, restrooms, and other assigned areas while helping maintain facility cleanliness, sanitation and safety standards. This position requires use of cleaning equipment tools, including an industrial sweeper and electric pallet jack, and requires the ability to walk, stand, lift, carry and perform other repetitive physical duties.

The salary range for this position is expected to be $19.00/hr. Pet Food Express determines starting salary based on many factors, including but not limited to, local market rate, the qualified pool of candidates, internal compensation practices, a candidate's actual skills and experience.

This is a non-exempt, temporary FT position. Initial hire will be through a 3rd party agency. This position may become permanent, be extended, or be cancelled at any time. Employees will be evaluated at or around minimum 30 days of employment to determine eligibility for conversion to a FT permanent position with Pet Food Express.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment
• Report maintenance, safety or repair issues to management promptly
• Clean spills promptly and place appropriate safety signage to prevent accidents
• Comply with all safety policies and proper chemical handling, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Follow established cleaning schedules and sanitation procedures
• Clean and restock bathrooms, including soap, paper towel, toilet paper dispensers
• Clean and maintain the lunchroom area by sanitizing tables and counters, restocking supplies (condiments, plates and utensils) and mopping floors after breaks and throughout the day as needed
• Clean out the refrigerator and sanitize high-tough surfaces, including door handles, light switches and breakroom appliances
• Sweep, mop, vacuum and dust assigned areas
• Clean windows, mirrors and glass surfaces
• Empty all common area and office trash receptacles, dispose of trash and other waste material appropriately; hose clean garbage cans as needed
• Bale cardboard and plastic throughout the warehouse and transport recyclable materials to designated recycling areas
• Operate and maintain custodial equipment, including floor scrubbers, vacuums and pressure washers as needed
• Sweep out trucks, clean warehouse bins and stack totes
• Maintain storage areas and janitorial closets in a clean and organized condition
• Replenish janitorial supplies and notify management when inventory is low
• Support facility setup and cleanup for meetings, events or operations needs
• Assist with various seasonal tasks, including exterior cleanup and pressure washing as needed
• Perform general housekeeping duties throughout the facility
• Complete other duties as needed and special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 6 months previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
• Capable of performing repetitive tasks while maintaining quality and high attention to detail
• Demonstrates the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Builds and maintains positive, cooperative and respectful working relationships with colleagues
• Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs repetitively
• Must be able to reach, lift, stoop, bend and perform extensive standing and walking
• Comfortable working in an environment where there are forklifts, machinery, large trucks, and other standard warehouse equipment
• Highly dependable, strong commitment to punctuality and attendance
• Able to communicate effectively, take direction, apply feedback and follow through
• Self-motivated, dependable and proactive with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
• At least 18 years of age
