Job Description

The District Finance Director oversees all financial operations, ensuring fiscal integrity, compliance with state and federal regulations, and alignment with the organization's strategic goals. This role manages budgeting processes, financial reporting, and audits, supervises the finance team, and works closely with the Executive Director and other senior leaders to support the organization's financial health and sustainability.

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Develop and manage the annual budget with district and school leaders.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
  • Monitor cash flow, investments, and financial forecasts to ensure economic stability; maintain the chart of accounts and oversee general ledger activities.
  • Manage eFinance, AvidXchange, TimeClock Plus, and other third-party finance systems.

Compliance, Reporting, and Audit Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies, including GAAP/GASB/FASB and the Arkansas Financial Handbook.
  • Lead all audit season responsibilities, including internal control and fixed assets.
  • Coordinate and oversee the preparation of tax filings, including Form 990.
  • Prepare and submit required ADE Cycle Reports.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.

Payroll and Benefits Administration

  • Develop and enforce procurement policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the offer letter process and payroll calendar setup.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and service providers, including contract negotiations and compliance.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Train, supervise, and mentor the finance team; manage the accuracy of responsibilities, including payroll, AC/AP, and day-to-day productivity.
  • Foster a culture of professional growth, high performance, continuous improvement, and accountability within the finance team.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support organizational objectives and initiatives; respond to internal and external requests as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or Master's preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of financial management experience, preferably in the education or nonprofit sector.
  • Must pass state and federal background checks, including fingerprinting and child maltreatment registry checks.
  • Must participate in ongoing professional development as required by ADE.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skill.
  • Proficiency in financial software, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with fund accounting, grant management, and state and federal education funding regulations.

Additional Information

District Director salaries will be based on individual experience and within the SY 2025-26 Salary Schedule range.
