We are seeking a DRM Engineer (Video Streaming) to join our team responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of a custom, in-house Digital Rights Management platform supporting large-scale video streaming. This role focuses on building and maintaining secure, scalable DRM infrastructure used to protect premium video content across multiple platforms and devices. The position plays a critical role in ensuring content protection, compliance, performance, and reliability for high-value streaming systems operating at scale. Candidates must have proven experience with Microsoft PlayReady to be considered for this position. Location & Work Type Location: Remote, United States Work Type: Remote Key Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain a custom, in-house DRM solution for video streaming platforms with Microsoft PlayReady as a core technology. Implement and operate DRM license servers, packaging services, and secure key delivery infrastructure. Integrate DRM systems with existing video workflows including CMS, encoding and packaging pipelines, video players, and CDNs. Support streaming formats and protocols including MPEG-DASH and HLS with dynamic content encryption. Define, implement, and enforce DRM security policies including offline playback rules, expiration windows, concurrent stream and device limits, token-based authentication, and secure key management. Architect DRM solutions for high availability, scalability, and low-latency license delivery capable of supporting traffic spikes and live events. Monitor DRM systems for performance, reliability, and security, implementing logging, alerting, and usage tracking. Troubleshoot complex DRM issues across platforms, operating systems, and device ecosystems. Ensure DRM implementations comply with content protection agreements, internal security policies, and applicable data protection regulations including GDPR. Partner with security, cloud, and infrastructure teams to support on-premise, cloud, and hybrid deployment models. Qualifications Required: Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft PlayReady. Backend coding experience (Java) Experience with digital rates management (Google Widevine, Apple FairPlay, Microsot PlayReady) Significant experience working with DRM systems, secure video streaming, or content protection technologies. Proficiency in backend software development using the .NET framework, C#, Java, Python, or similar languages. Deep understanding of encryption standards such as AES-256, secure key management, and license enforcement. Solid knowledge of video streaming technologies, formats, and workflows including MPEG-DASH, HLS, CMAF, encoding, and packaging. Experience deploying and managing DRM infrastructure in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and or on-premise systems. Strong networking fundamentals including HTTPS, TLS, certificate management, and low-latency service design. Experience designing scalable, redundant, highly available systems across multiple regions. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across distributed systems. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineering, security, and business stakeholders. Proven reliability, accountability, and ownership of mission-critical systems. Preferred (Optional): Experience supporting premium or studio-grade content distribution. Familiarity with hardware-level security environments such as TEE or DRM L1 requirements. Experience supporting DRM across web, mobile, and connected TV platforms. Knowledge of watermarking or forensic content protection technologies. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
