DVSA Advocate/Visitation Specialist

Schedule: Up to 40 hours/week

Job Summary

The DV/SA Advocate/Visitation Specialist is responsible for providing advocacy and supervised visitation services to community members who have experienced domestic violence and sexual assault. The DV/SA Advocate/Visitation Specialist will have basic knowledge of services provided within the Tribe and in the community in order to provide appropriate referrals and supervision for visitations. The DV/SA Advocate/Visitation Specialist will hold a certification from Inspire for Action specific to the supervised visitation protocols and strategies.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for coordinating intervention services that have been identified through the intake process
  • Complete intakes, scheduling, case management, prevention, advocacy and provide referrals (internally and externally), maintain client/family confidentiality and visitation supervision
  • Assist in navigating the investigative process, court process, and treatment options, as well as provide coordinated child/parent/other visitation services within a structured and appropriate venue
  • Monitor and maintain case logistics and tracking of all cases referred for advocacy services
  • Maintain un'ina records in accordance with the Tribe's standards, local, state and federal guidelines or regulations and comply with internal process for filing (i.e. title pages, sections, archiving), electronic data management system, designated program software and documenting case notes
  • Develop and provide group presentations internally and externally representing Kenaitze Indian Tribe and Family and Social Services
  • Serve as the Lead Family Services Team expert in matters associated with family visitation processes, strategies and outcomes.)
  • Attend court proceedings and prepare updates as required.
  • Transport un'inas to and from necessary appointments.
  • Be available to work evenings, weekends and do schedule adjustments, or respond immediately to a crisis/emergency or need
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associates in Human Services related fields or a combination of education and experience in a related field may be substituted for a degree

Experience:

  • One (1) year experience working with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, rape and other crimes of violence
  • Experience in social and community based programs
  • Experience working with children who have suffered trauma, abuse and/or neglect
  • Experience in the development of community program strategies
  • Experience managing private, state and federal grants; and grant compliance

License:

  • Valid Alaska Driver License and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy

Special Skills:

  • Knowledge of drug and alcohol abuse treatment options
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Critical Incident Reporting, Adult Protective Services, Office of Children's Services reporting
  • Ability to work with vulnerable populations, child abuse, homelessness, substance abuse, poverty and domestic violence and sexual assault clients/perpetrators
  • Experience in public speaking
  • Experience in case documentation
  • Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
  • Excellent prioritization skills

Preferred:

  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
