Special Education Teacher

Program Description: The Learning House, a therapeutic day school located in Wheeling, IL serving middle and high school students, is seeking a Special Education Teacher to join our staff. The Learning House is a year-round program for students who have been determined eligible to receive special education under section 14.702 of the Illinois School Code in the categories of ED/LD/OHI and Autism. For more information, please access our website at www.thelearninghouse.net Job Description: The Special Education Teacher is directly responsible for the instructional program of middle and high school students assigned to his/her departmentalized classes in accordance with The Learning House policies and procedures. The Special Education Teacher works collaboratively with administrators, counselors, parents, and other teachers to implement the program and facilitate student growth and change in this year-round program. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Secondary Education, or content area of related field; Master's degree a plus. Professional Educator License with LBS1 endorsement. Familiarity with a wide range of special needs and a demonstrated knowledge skill related to supporting students in crisis Strong interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, effective written and oral communication, and the capacity to efficiently manage responsibilities and timelines. Highly qualified in Math and/or Science a plus. Bilingual (ability to converse in Spanish) skills a plus.
