Job Description
Position Overview:
Sherman ECC seeks a passionate and creative Early Childhood STEAM Teacher to lead our dynamic Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) program. The role involves planning and executing age-appropriate STEAM activities that foster curiosity, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication among young children, ages 18 months- 5 years.
About Sherman ECC’s STEAM Program:
Our STEAM program is designed to build on what young children already know, offering hands-on experiences that inspire wonder, inquiry, and joyful learning across all five domains: science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Children come to the STEAM classroom during the week to learn with the STEAM teacher, in a dedicated, fully equipped classroom, which is set for learning and exploration. Our outside spaces are seen as another classroom for the STEAM program. This class cultivates the Four C’s: Creativity, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Communication.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement STEAM lessons for each classroom (toddlers-PreK) aligned with developmental stages, our core values, and Sherman ECC’s philosophy.
- Facilitate scientific inquiry and provide opportunities and experiences for the children to foster science skills and build conceptual understanding.
- Guide exploration using scientific tools (e.g., microscopes, cameras, engineering materials, measuring instruments, light tables).
- Provide a learning environment that listens to the children’s ideas, encourages children to ask questions, plan investigations, and record and discuss findings.
- Set the environment to cultivate the Four C’s: foster creativity, collaboration, critical analysis, and communication.
- Document learning experiences through pictures and journaling for families and the school.
- Collaborate with Sherman ECC team and families, participating in team meetings and parent engagement events.
- Maintain a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel valued and supported.
- Partner closely with Director of Early Childhood and Curriculum Director (Pedagogista) to create learning experiences that reflect best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in early childhood education, education with science specialization, or a relevant field.
- Experience teaching children aged 2–5, preferably in STEAM or inquiry-based settings.
- Strong knowledge of early childhood development and play-based learning.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Enthusiasm for continual learning, creativity, and innovation in STEAM teaching.
- Alignment with Sherman ECC’s values—empathy, kindness, respect, inclusion—and commitment to Jewish traditions and community engagement.
Additional Details:
- Schedule: Full-time, year-round position with additional teaching assignment in the school or 20–30 hours per week which includes generous planning time, Monday–Friday. This can also be a part-time position with working 1-2 mornings and 4- 5 afternoons, teaching only STEAM.
- Compensation: Competitive, based on experience.
