Early Childhood Special Education Teacher

New, State-of-the-Art Early Education Center

Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–FridayPay: $30.00 per hourAnnual Equivalent: $62,400 (based on a 40-hour work week)

Are you ready to be part of something truly special? People Incorporated’s state-of-the-art Early Education Center, which opened last fall, is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and creative Special Education Teacher to join our team.

The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment that supports the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic development of young children.

This position provides specialized instruction and behavioral support for children with developmental delays and diverse learning needs while implementing evidence-based practices, including Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and trauma-informed strategies.

The teacher collaborates closely with families, behavioral specialists, and program leadership to support each child’s individualized developmental goals and ensure compliance with all regulatory and program standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with early childhood and special education best practices
  • Support children with developmental delays, behavioral needs, and diverse learning styles
  • Implement PBIS strategies to promote positive behavior and classroom engagement
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed approaches to support children experiencing behavioral challenges
  • Develop and implement individualized strategies consistent with IEPs, behavior plans, and therapeutic recommendations when appropriate.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment that promotes learning and emotional regulation
  • Collaborate with families, behavior specialists, program leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to support each child’s developmental progress
  • Document progress, maintain required records, and support compliance with regulatory standards
  • Foster strong social-emotional development and positive peer interactions.
  • Collaborate with administrators and specialists to address the diverse needs of children and ensure inclusive, culturally responsive practices.
  • Help to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including Massachusetts EEC licensing standards, CACFP, and NAEYC accreditation criteria
  • Facilitate team meetings, professional learning communities, and reflective teaching practices to foster a culture of collaboration and growth
  • Maintain program and Agency-required certifications and training
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the program and its educators

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • MA DESE Certification in one of the following areas: Techer of Students with Moderate Disabilities PreK-2; PreK-8 or Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities PreK-2
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with children with behavioral challenges in early education or special education settings
  • Demonstrated experience implementing PBIS frameworks
  • Strong skills in behavior management, crisis prevention, and de-escalation techniques
  • Experience supporting children with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, or behavioral needs preferred
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to maintain a calm, supportive presence in challenging situations
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Experience in inclusive early childhood classrooms
    • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices
    • Experience working as part of multidisciplinary teams (BCBA, therapists, etc.)
  • Physicals are required upon hire and every two years. MMRs are required upon hire.
  • All candidates must have a qualifying criminal background check. A driver’s license is preferred but not required.
