Starting Pay Rate: $20/hrOVERVIEW OF POSITION: Assist Early Childhood Educators with children in a developmental classroom for children. Act as a caregiver for assigned children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
- Assist Early Childhood Educators with children in a developmentally appropriate and inclusive educational curriculum for young children, in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, policies and procedures and Easter Seals Southern California (ESSC) standards of conduct.
- Provide extra support for children with atypical behavior and those with special needs.
- Serve as caregiver for each assigned child in the classroom throughout the child’s enrollment in the program.
- Ensure the safety of children with disabilities and/or atypical behavior.
- Conduct general classroom housekeeping duties and general maintenance, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- High School graduate or GED.
- Possession of pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR and First Aid certificates.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in teaching in a preschool or infant/toddler classroom setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively, through oral and written skills, and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups.
- Ability to follow regulations, policies and procedures of the California Department of Education, Funding Terms and Conditions (Title 5), Child Development Division, the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing program regulations (Title 22) and the policies and procedures of Easter Seals Southern California, Inc.
- Exercise sound judgment, plan, establish and meet timelines.
- Knowledge of infant and toddler development, safety issues in infant and toddler childcare settings (i.e., reducing the risk of SIDS).
- Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift 40 lbs. continuously. Ability to reach, bend, stoop and squat. Possess fine manual dexterity, can push, pull, talk/hear, with near and far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
- Ability to pass post-offer medical examination and test for tuberculosis.
- Ability to obtain fingerprint clearance per Easter Seals Southern California and/or program requirements.
• Carrying/Lifting: Occasional / Up to 40 lbs.• Standing: Occasional / Up to 3 hours per day.• Sitting: Occasional / Up to 3 hours per day.• Walking: Occasional / Up to 3 hours per day.• Repetitive Motion/Activity: Keyboard activity, telephone use, writing.• Visual Acuity: Ability to view computer monitor and read newsprint.• Travel:• Environmental Exposure: Regular exposure to unpleasant or hazardous working conditions (noise, heat, dust, bodily fluids, etc.) more than 50% of work time.
