Job Title: Echocardiographer

Job Summary:

Pediatric Cardiologist with subspecialization in the performance and interpretation of transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interprets diagnostic transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) in the inpatient and outpatient setting on hearts with normal anatomy and complex congenital heart disease. Capable of performing transthoracic echocardiograms on patients with complex congenital heart disease.
  • Performs and provides in-the-moment interpretations on diagnostic transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE) in the operating room, cardiac catheterization, and electrophysiology room settings on hearts with normal anatomy and complex congenital heart disease.
  • Train and mentor pediatric categorical cardiology fellows, as well as pediatric advanced cardiac imaging 4th year fellows.
  • Help to train and mentor pediatic cardiac sonographers.
  • Outpatient cardiology clinic at the Anschutz campus and possibly network of care.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

The Society of Thoracic Surgery requires a hospital to perform at least 250 heart surgeries per year to be considered a high-volume center. By far exceeding this, we gain more experience, which leads to better outcomes. The Heart Institute has 80 plus faculty members and continues to grow annually.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Assistant Professor:

  • Board Certified or Eligible in Pediatric Cardiology.

Associate Professor:

  • Board Certified or Eligible in Pediatric Cardiology.
  • At least 5 years of experience

Professor:

  • Board Certified or Eligible in Pediatric Cardiology.
  • At least 10 years of experience

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of at least one additional year of training in non-invasive cardiac imaging/echocardiography.
  • Ability to perform and provide in-the-moment intrepretions on diagnostic transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE) in the operating room, cardiac catheterization, and electrophysiology room settings on hearts with normal anatomy and complex congenital heart disease.
  • At least a cursory understanding and comfort with performing 3D transesophageal echocardiography for the purposes of providing imaging guidance ofr procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory (e.g., transcatheter ASD closure, VSD closure, atrial septostomy, etc).
  • Evaluate and manage general cardiology patients in the outpatient clinic

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Deep knowledge of congenital heart disease anatomy, physiology and clinical implications
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a large team, including echocardiographers, sonographers, cardiothoracic surgeons, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and critical care physicians.
  • Desire to progress the clinical practice of pediatric cardiology and/or echocardiography through clinical investigation and research.
  • Ability to teach medical students, residents, fellows, and sonographers the essentials of pediatric cardiology and echocardiography.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor: $240,000 to $254,886

Associate Professor: $293,814 to $314,752

Professor: $364,300 to $402,171

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
