WHO YOU ARE:
TWC's Information Innovation & Insight Division is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Economist III position to analyze current and projected workforce needs in regions of the state as part of TWC's Regional Labor Demand Assessment. The Economist III will contribute to publication of data used to allow Institutions of Higher Education to align better educational programs with workforce needs and prepare reports and data on the labor market needed by TWC's Tri-Agency Workforce Initiative partners. This position will also develop labor market projections data. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of economic principles, statistical analysis, and data visualization techniques as well as have excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
In brief, the Economist III performs advanced (senior-level) economics work. Work involves planning, coordinating, and conducting economic studies and analyses; identifying and evaluating economic factors related to programs and projects; and coordinating the collection of economic information; and preparing reports. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:
- Prepare reports and data on the labor market needed by TWC's Tri-Agency Workforce Initiative partners.
- Analyze current and projected workforce needs in regions of the state as part of TWC's Regional Labor Demand Assessment.
- Contribute to publication of data used to allow Institutions of Higher Education to align better educational programs with workforce needs.
- Develop labor market projections.
- Write original narrative, reports, and articles on trends and practices relating to labor market activities in Texas statewide and within regions of the state.
- Track and research large economic events occurring in Texas on a daily basis.
- Prepare and deliver, presentations at external events regarding labor market outreach efforts and topical information on market conditions, business activity, local economic development initiatives, and employment and training activities.
- Deliver training outlining the data, publications, and products available through the LMI Department.
- Conduct research and produce reports as assigned by supervisor(s) to respond to specific requests made by internal or external LMI customers.
- Assist and participate in routine departmental data release efforts, public information activities, and internal agency briefings.
- Disseminate data generated by LMI Department programs: Respond to requests for labor market and other information which may involve creating customized reports using various software.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
YOU QUALIFY WITH:
- Two years of full-time experience in economic research or statistical or analytical work.
- Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:
- Knowledge of the BLS programs including but not limited to Current Employment Statistics, Local Area Unemployment Statistics, Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics and Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey.
- Familiarity with Labor Market Projections
- Knowledge or experience with education data and the labor market data needs of educational entities and institutions as part of the Tri-Agency Workforce Initiative
- Comprehensive knowledge of NAICS and SOC classifications.
- Ability to prioritize workload, manage time effectively, work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment, with an emphasis on excellence and continuous improvement.
- Excellent attention to detail and interpersonal, communication, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Skill in/knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office Suite software (Outlook, Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint), Tableau, and SQL.

Duty requires up to 25% travel (within the state of Texas) and the ability to lift 30 pounds.
