Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is an exempt position which is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the curriculum for the Preschool program in operation at the center according to the National Association of Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children (COA) guidelines. Ensure compliance with VPK and Head Start Performance Standards. Director's Credential will be used for purposes of DCF licensing, monitoring and VPK. All activities within this position are completed in accordance with agency's policy and procedures, federal, state and local laws, Head Start performance standards and the Head Start contract and accreditation standards. Catholic Charities reserves the right to transfer employees to any program throughout the agency based on the operational needs of the organization with or without notice. Such transfers may occur at any time and may be temporary or permanent. Incumbent in this position demonstrates sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative and Leadership

  • Train, supervise and evaluate Teaching staff and ensure appropriate child-adult ratios at all times.
  • Assists with recruitment of new teaching staff and participates in the interview process.
  • Act as Program Director in the absence of Regional Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Curriculum

  • Monitors and reviews teacher's lesson plans to assure compliance with program objectives and funding sources guidelines to include the High Scope curriculum and VPK standards addressing school readiness.
  • Monitors and documents teaching staff's implementation of academic components such as Head Start Outcomes,

VPK Standards, Galileo Indicators and other sources and works with staff in improving areas of weakness through

improvement plans.

  • Conducts weekly classroom observations utilizing Developmentally Appropriate Guidelines, NAEYC and VPK Standards learning models that support and address school readiness.
  • Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for, pre- school programs according to NAEYC, COA, VPK and other funding sources.
  • Conducts at a minimum bi-weekly VPK meetings and or trainings with teaching staff to monitor and evaluate assessments, and assist Teaching staff in creating VPK strategies to include: parent meetings, Home Learning, Winter, Spring and Summer Home Learning packets.
  • Timely reporting to Education Director of VPK performance data and Assessment results, strategies, or technical support request.
  • Monitor classroom inventory of incoming/outgoing supplies and equipment; placing orders and maintaining accurate records of available funding for each program.
  • Supervises teaching staff compliance with children's records in Education area
  • Review Home Visits and Parent Teacher Conferences as per program guidelines.
  • Participates in conferences along with teaching staff and parents concerning the progress and development of children on behavioral problems or special needs.
  • Supervises the implementation of the Galileo Assessment tool and ensures that all reports are submitted timely, including Galileo Monthly Checklists according to Head Start and other funding sources.

Professional Development

  • Attends Professional conferences in education areas and serves as an advisor to teaching staff.
  • Creates and maintains a Resource Library and materials for teachers and parents in areas of need.
  • Coaches and mentors teaching staff in the development of their Professional Development Plans.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Review all assessments, tests and evaluations conducted by teaching teams and keep records in classroom feedback report.
  • Run monthly appropriate Child Plus reports to monitor Educational requirements for 45 day compliance as required by HeadStart Performance Standards and as needed for new children entering the program.
  • Conduct and submit in a timely manner written monthly and quarterly reports according to Head Start, NAEYC, COA and other funding sources.
  • Monitor and counsel educational staff's and take appropriate corrective action to ensure compliance. Develops and follows up with Improvement Plans as necessary.
  • Monitor compliance with universal safety precautions as per OSHA guidelines and procedures.
  • Timely completion of incident reports and shared with the Regional Director.
  • Prepares for monitoring visits and ensures requested follow-up.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift/carry young children, up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, squat, kneel, push, pull, crawl and sit on low chairs as part of child care work environment
  • Ability to detect unsafe situations by sight or sound and react quickly to intervene

Educational & Experiential Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or
  • A Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field with 18 Early Childhood Education Credits
  • Foundational Florida Level Director's Credential preferred.
  • Acquisition of Advanced Florida Director's Credential within 1 year of hire.
  • Three (3) years of supervised teaching experience.
  • One (1) year supervisory experience
