Job Description

Education Coordinator

The Chattanooga Zoo is looking for an exceptional Education Coordinator I with skills related to working with a variety of age groups in both informal and classroom learning settings. Normal duties will include a heavy focus on group programs as well as assisting in teaching onsite and offsite educational programs. This position primarily oversees our Zoo Club and Scouting Programs The working environment is dynamic and requires excellent attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and interact with guests, students and employees in a respectful and positive manner.

This position will be required to work weekends and holidays as the schedule necessitates. Candidates must be able to work independently and lead a group. Candidates must also have excellent speaking skills to interact with guests, teachers, students and campers.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • Act as a lead educator to present educational programs including onsite interpretation, animal ambassador programs and classroom instruction to audiences of all ages.
  • Manages registration and communications for assigned programs which includes building and maintaining registration systems and company calendar.
  • Develops, executes, and presents assigned programs around state and national educations standards.
  • Identifies areas of development and assists in recording and interpreting the data
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with course work emphasis in General Science, Education, Biology, Zoology, or a related field or equivalent experience is required.
  • Preference given to those with experience or training in education programming, environmental/conservation education, or zoo operations.
  • Must have the ability to follow directions and complete tasks as assigned and unsupervised.
  • Have the ability to speak in public and interact well with both children and adults.
  • Must have good organizational skills.
