Job Description Summary

The EHS Specialist will have the opportunity to help build the Health and Safety foundation for a growing Newark, DE site at the forefront of Advanced Materials manufacturing and innovation. Supporting a mix of site startup, production scale-up, and research & development, this role is ideal for an EHS professional who wants to make a visible impact in an environment where advanced materials and breakthrough technologies come together.This role supports work connected to technologies and components used in missile defense, military flight engines, space applications, and other advanced platforms, making it an exciting opportunity for an EHS professional who wants to contribute in a high-impact, innovation-driven setting. The EHS Specialist will partner closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and leadership to identify hazards, assess risk, implement effective controls, and drive strong employee engagement in new Health & Safety initiatives. The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment where they can help build programs from the ground up while supporting both production and innovation.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and sustain site Health & Safety programs, procedures, and safe work practices for an advanced materials manufacturing environment.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments for manufacturing processes, equipment, materials, and work areas.
  • Identify and mitigate hazards associated with advanced materials manufacturing, including:
    • ergonomic stressors from material handling and repetitive tasks
    • combustible dust and particulate exposure generated through machining, finishing, material handling, or powder-related processes
    • confined spaces associated with equipment or process systems
    • hot surfaces and thermal hazards from ovens, furnaces, curing, heat treatment, or other high-temperature operations
    • high noise exposure from production equipment and machining processes
    • cut and laceration hazards from tools, sharp parts, and handling operations
    • chemical exposures from resins, coatings, binders, solvents, powders, or other process materials
  • Partner with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to implement appropriate engineering controls, administrative controls, PPE, and safe work procedures.
  • Support safe startup and scale-up of new equipment and processes through hazard reviews, risk reduction planning, and employee readiness activities.
  • Ensure employees have the proper training, tools, equipment, and procedures to safely perform work in a specialized advanced materials manufacturing environment.
  • Support inspections, audits, incident investigations, exposure reduction efforts, and corrective actions.
  • Help build strong employee buy-in and engagement for Health & Safety initiatives in a growing site environment.
  • Partner with leaders to support compliance with applicable EHS regulations and company requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years (specific) experience in engineering controls, administrative controls, PPE, and safe work procedures.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience supporting Health & Safety programs in a manufacturing, industrial, or advanced materials environment.
  • Knowledge of hazard recognition, risk assessment, and control implementation.
  • Experience working around process hazards, particulate or dust exposure risks, thermal hazards, chemical handling, and industrial equipment.
  • Experience in advanced materials, Aerospace, defense, precision manufacturing, powder processing, or other technically demanding industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements and industrial Health & Safety programs related to dust, chemical exposure, noise, PPE, machine safety, and high-temperature operations.
  • Professional certification such as ASP, CSP, or CHST.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Ideal Candidate

A hands-on, proactive EHS professional who can build programs, influence teams, and help create a strong safety culture in a technically demanding advanced materials manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who shows strong initiative, follows through on priorities, and is comfortable working in a startup environment where they must identify needs and drive action. This person should also be an effective communicator who can engage employees at all levels, build trust across functions, and translate safety expectations into practical, day-to-day behaviors.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
