Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Electrical & Controls Field Engineer to design, program, and commission advanced automation systems used in industrial rubber manufacturing facilities worldwide. This role offers the rare chance to build cutting-edge equipment from the ground up, designing electrical systems, integrating robotics and motion controls, and directly supporting installations at customer sites across the country and globe.

You’ll be a key part of a small, growing engineering team that’s bringing new automation capabilities to U.S. manufacturing. From concept through startup, you’ll influence everything from control architecture to field integration, working closely with mechanical designers, production technicians, and international customers to ensure every system runs flawlessly.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Design & Develop Control Systems – Design and develop complete control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, motion control, and safety systems.
  • Create Electrical Schematics – Produce detailed electrical hardware drawings and schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Specify Components – Size and specify drives, servos, and other control components (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or Omron).
  • Program & Debug Automation – Write, debug, and optimize PLC, HMI, and motion control programs for reliability and performance.
  • Travel & Commission Equipment – Travel to customer sites (approximately 50%) to install, integrate, and troubleshoot automated systems.
  • Lead Debugging & Startup – Oversee system debugging and startup during in-house assembly and factory acceptance testing.
  • Provide Field Support – Deliver on-site troubleshooting and service for both new and legacy equipment.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally – Partner with mechanical engineers and project managers from concept through completion.
  • Lead Design Reviews – Chair design review meetings with internal teams and external customers to ensure alignment.
  • Develop Documentation & Training – Create technical documentation, training materials, and cost estimates for controls-related scope.
  • Innovate & Prototype Solutions – Research, prototype, and implement emerging technologies to enhance equipment performance and reliability.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or related field (Associate degree with relevant experience will be considered)
  • Comfortability with 50% travel expectations
  • 5+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or related role
  • 3+ years of experience programming PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or Omron).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and electrical schematic development

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with process engineering or machine design integration
  • Multi-platform controls experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron)
  • Project management or team leadership experience
