Electrical DesignerLocation: Plano, TXJob Type: Contract-to-HireWork Arrangement: Hybrid (Travel up to 20% to warehouses throughout the DFW Metroplex)Pay: $38.00-$43.00 per hourPosition OverviewWheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to support the design and documentation of low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution equipment. This role is responsible for developing complete electrical drawing packages for switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, power distribution units (PDUs), automatic transfer switches (ATS), and related electrical assemblies.The ideal candidate has experience creating manufacturing-ready electrical documentation, developing schematics and panel layouts, supporting BOM creation, and working within CAD and PDM environments. This position collaborates closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and project management teams to ensure accurate, efficient, and standardized electrical designs.Key Responsibilities
- Create and revise single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnection diagrams, and panel layouts.
- Develop complete electrical drawing packages for manufacturing, quality, project management, and customer submittals.
- Design panel and equipment layouts with consideration for accessibility, serviceability, manufacturability, and cable routing.
- Utilize SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Inventor Electrical, or similar CAD platforms to develop and maintain electrical documentation.
- Create and support 3D electrical layouts, wire routing, cable routing, and harness documentation.
- Develop and maintain electrical symbols, manufacturer part libraries, templates, and standardized drawing packages.
- Interpret customer specifications and engineering requirements while producing production-ready documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and project management to resolve design questions and implement engineering changes.
- Support bill of material (BOM) development and validation while ensuring alignment between ERP systems and released drawings.
- Manage engineering documentation, revision control, workflows, and release processes within SOLIDWORKS PDM or similar document management systems.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable UL standards, including UL 891, UL 1558, and other applicable electrical codes.
- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and manufacturing readiness.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum 2 years of experience creating electrical drawing packages for industrial control systems, power distribution equipment, switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, ATS/STS equipment, PDUs, or similar engineered electrical assemblies.
- Experience with one or more of the following: SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Autodesk Inventor Electrical/Cable & Harness, or similar electrical CAD software.
- Experience supporting drawing revisions, engineering change orders, BOM development, and manufacturing documentation.
- Working knowledge of PDM, PLM, ERP, or similar document management systems with experience in revision control and released drawing management.
- Experience designing or documenting low-voltage and/or medium-voltage power distribution equipment.
- Experience creating or supporting 3D electrical layouts, wiring, cable routing, and electromechanical assemblies.
- Associate degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology or a related technical field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
