Job Description

Position Summary: As an Electrical Development Specialist at New Flyer, you will provide practical and technical training to the Electrical Department while supporting the Learning Institute and Production teams. This role is responsible for identifying training needs, developing and delivering classroom and on-the-job training, supporting electrical onboarding and certification programs, and helping improve electrical quality, safety, and performance.

You will work closely with Electrical Leadership, Production, Quality, Engineering, HR, and the Learning Institute to identify skill gaps, develop training solutions, and ensure electrical employees have the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their work safely and effectively.

Requirements

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Provides practical and technical training to the Electrical Department and support to the Learning Institute to identify, plan and implement resource selection, training and development requirements to support the required skilled labor requirement of the Electrical Department.
  • In consultation with customers, managers and Institute team, assist to define performance requirements and standards, assess current performance and identify training and development needs for employees in the Electrical Department.
  • Supports the efforts of others to design, develop and instruct curricula (classroom or on-the-job) utilizing instructional design techniques, including use of learning objectives, lesson plans, teaching aids and assessment materials.
  • Responsible to ensure the Electrical Department is compliant with safety requirements.
  • Provide support to the HR recruitment team with production electrical tech on-boarding to include pre and post-hiring testing and training.
  • Provide support to the Electrical Cell Team during the observation, creation and Improvement efforts of SWI’s and PQS’s.
  • Develop curriculum, administer and maintain internal certification programs for electrical processes.
  • Analyze measures of performance (MOPs) relevant to the area of specialization, root cause and determine if relevant training interventions are necessary.
  • Support in the development of training methods such as evaluation and validation and determine the effectiveness of the training to validate the cost benefit.
  • Ensures processes established by the NFI Learning Institute on course delivery including sign in sheets, course evaluations and materials are ready and prepare for practical training delivery along with maintaining the Training Matrix.
  • Identifies, develops and organizes electrical resources in cooperation with Electrical Leadership to schedule electrical personnel required to participate in any classroom and/or on-the-job training.
  • Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
  • Responsible for the Training and Development relating to Quality and Standard Violation repeat issues demonstrated by electrical personnel.
  • Support other locations as needed.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an electrical technician role with a focus on On the Job Training (OJT) techniques and utilization of training plans and conducting practical training.
  • Experienced OJT Trainer.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering schematics/drawings, with the ability to interpret and apply them in practical applications.
  • Ability to interpret and apply electrical data sheets.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple training programs and priorities simultaneously.
  • Previous leadership, mentoring, coaching, or training experience preferred.
  • Electrical certification, diploma, or degree from a post-secondary institution preferred, or equivalent related work experience.
