Position Overview:
The Electrical Engineer – Projects at Motiva’s Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex is responsible for supporting the design, execution and optimization of electrical capital and sustaining projects across refinery and manufacturing operations. This role provides technical assurance for electrical systems and power distribution infrastructure, ensuring projects are delivered safely, reliably, cost-effectively and in compliance with regulatory requirements, company standards and industry best practices. The position supports power system modernization, automation initiatives and equipment reliability improvements that enhance operational efficiency, minimize environmental impact and reduce downtime risks.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support electrical engineering activities for capital, turnaround and brownfield projects across assigned operating areas.
- Develop and review electrical system designs, single-line diagrams, control circuits and equipment specifications for new and existing plant facilities.
- Plan and execute electrical upgrades and expansion projects to improve system reliability, efficiency and production capacity.
- Provide technical assurance and engineering support for power distribution systems, motor control centers, transformers, switchgear and associated equipment.
- Ensure all project activities comply with electrical safety, protection and safeguarding standards, as well as company and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams to support successful project execution and startup activities.
- Support power system automation and control system optimization initiatives to improve operational performance and reduce downtime.
- Analyze power usage, equipment performance and system reliability data to identify energy efficiency and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Attend Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for new electrical equipment at various vendor shops.
- Troubleshoot electrical equipment and system issues during project execution and commissioning, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, project records, maintenance history and technical reports for all assigned electrical projects and modifications.
Experience and Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of relevant petrochemical, refining, or manufacturing experience covering all aspects of design and engineering in the electrical discipline
- Knowledge of Principles of Electrical Equipment and Power System design
- Knowledge of Engineering Standards and best practices, including IEEE and PIP
- Knowledge of Project Processes
Preferred Qualifications
- Front End Loading (FEL) experience
- Experience with high voltage design
- Experience with SKM modeling software
- Experience with Wonderware or SCADA systems
Physical Requirements:
- Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots and hearing protection)
