Job Description

Procon is a top-ranked construction management and technology consulting firm with 25 years of experience delivering high‑impact projects across the U.S. and worldwide. An ENR Top 100 CM/PM firm for five consecutive years, we specialize in program management, project controls, commissioning, and technology—and offer an excellent platform to grow your career while shaping the future of the built environment.

Procon is seeking an Electrical Engineer for a long-term, onsite opportunity in the Erie, Pennsylvania area, supporting construction, renovation, and facility improvement projects within an active federal healthcare environment.

The position will support complex projects involving architecture and engineering, design-build construction, facility renovations, infrastructure improvements, space management, and facilities management. Because work will be performed within an active healthcare environment, the Electrical Engineer must be able to effectively coordinate construction activities while considering patient safety, infection control requirements, continuity of facility operations, and impacts to critical building systems.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of six years of electrical engineering experience supporting construction projects, with experience in federal, VA, healthcare, hospital, or other complex occupied facilities strongly preferred. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of electrical building systems, construction practices, design review, quality assurance, and interdisciplinary coordination.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related technical field; directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience supporting facility construction projects, including design coordination, construction oversight, scheduling, cost control, and project execution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of field construction management, construction administration, inspection, or quality assurance experience.
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, schedules, and proposed changes.
  • Experience with electrical building systems, critical infrastructure, data centers, emergency power, UPS, telecommunications, or low-voltage systems strongly preferred.
  • Federal, VA, healthcare, hospital, or other highly regulated construction experience preferred.
  • PE license preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable construction codes, standards, safety requirements, and industry practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, engineers, facility personnel, and government stakeholders.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required VA credentials/background clearance, and able to work full-time onsite in Erie, PA, including occasional night or off-hours support as required.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide onsite electrical engineering and construction management support for VA EHRM infrastructure upgrades at the Erie VA Medical Center.
  • Oversee electrical infrastructure improvements, including normal and emergency power, UPS systems, data centers, telecommunications rooms, grounding and bonding, low-voltage systems, and life safety systems.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify contractor compliance with drawings, specifications, contract requirements, safety standards, and applicable codes.
  • Review electrical submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, product data, design changes, and contractor proposals and provide technical recommendations.
  • Monitor construction progress, schedules, quality, and contractor performance while coordinating with contractors, designers, VA personnel, and other project stakeholders.
  • Support quality assurance, testing, commissioning, and acceptance of electrical systems.
  • Identify construction deficiencies, design conflicts, safety concerns, and project risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain inspection reports, project tracking documentation, schedules, and other required construction records.
  • Ensure compliance with VA design standards, NEC, NFPA, OSHA, The Joint Commission (TJC), and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
