Job Description

RFA Engineering (www.rfamec.com) is an engineering service provider dedicated to delivering our clients with timely engineering support and expertise.  We are seeking an entry-mid level experienced candidate to become an integral part of our engineering team.  The selected candidate will work with an experienced engineering staff using state-of-the-art engineering tools & processes. This position will operate onsite at our customer's world-class engineering and manufacturing facility.

This is a full-time position with a full benefit package listed below that includes opportunities for professional growth, direct hire by our customers, and additional opportunities within our own organization.

Electrical Engineer – Product Design and Validation

The selected candidate will support the development, testing, and validation of software-controlled systems used on large mining trucks. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining hands-on work with technology, troubleshooting, and machine testing in a real-world operating environment.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to work directly with large equipment, electrical systems, controls, and software validation rather than developing software code. You will play a critical role in ensuring production machines perform safely and reliably while helping introduce new technologies and features into future machine platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Execute software validation and verification activities for large mining truck control systems.
  • Develop and execute test plans to verify software functionality and system performance.
  • Utilize diagnostic and calibration tools to monitor machine behavior, adjust tuning parameters, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Support validation of software releases across multiple machine electronic control modules (ECMs).
  • Identify, document, and troubleshoot software, controls, and electrical system issues.
  • Build, modify, and troubleshoot electrical harnesses and machine wiring as needed.
  • Conduct field testing on active production machines and new technology integrations.
  • Document results, findings, and recommendations using standard engineering tools and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with electrical systems, controls, embedded systems, or software validation.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing and executing test plans and documenting results.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic, calibration, and data acquisition tools.
  • Ability to work hands-on with electrical wiring, harnesses, and machine systems.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to work directly with large equipment in a testing and field environment.

Desired Attributes

  • Experience with heavy equipment, off-highway vehicles, or mobile machinery.
  • Familiarity with CAN or J1939 communication.
  • Experience with electronic control modules (ECMs).
  • Experience with software verification and validation.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting issues involving electrical, controls, and software systems.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
