Job Description

Electrical Engineer IDarien, WI | Direct Hire | $80,000–$100,000 | Comprehensive Benefits
Sterling Engineering is partnering with a well-established leader in enclosure and power solutions to hire an Electrical Engineer I to design electrical systems for diesel and gas-fueled generators used in the power generation industry. This is a great opportunity for an engineer early in their career looking to build hands-on technical experience, work cross-functionally, and grow long-term within a stable, established organization.
About the Role
You'll design low-voltage AC power and control systems for generator applications — from schematics and panel layouts through testing support and production troubleshooting. You'll work closely with manufacturing, sales, and service teams, and get exposure to the full engineering lifecycle: design, component selection, customer specifications, and field support. If you're looking to sharpen your AutoCAD Electrical skills and build real-world experience on mission-critical power systems, this role offers a strong runway.
What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and assist in testing electrical systems for diesel and gas-fueled generators
  • Review and interpret customer specifications and sales agreements to ensure design compliance
  • Create and maintain schematics, panel layouts, interconnects, and point-to-point wiring diagrams using AutoCAD Electrical
  • Design main low-voltage AC power systems below 600V
  • Evaluate and select electrical and electronic components for control systems
  • Design control systems supporting heating, filtration, and pumping applications
  • Create bills of materials using the company's engineering change order process
  • Serve as a technical resource for customers and service personnel, helping diagnose and resolve field issues
  • Support production and collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure design intent and quality standards are met
  • Incorporate applicable UL and NEC requirements into electrical designs
  • Stay current with industry developments and contribute ideas for new products and design improvements
  • Travel to job sites as needed to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with 1–2 years of related experience preferred — or 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in lieu of a degree
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical, including schematics, panel layouts, interconnects, and point-to-point wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of low-voltage AC power systems, control systems, NEC 70E, and UL standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to contribute effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, troubleshoot technical issues, and meet deadlines
Why This Role
  • Hands-on engineering experience across the full product lifecycle — design, testing, production, and field support
  • Cross-functional collaboration with sales, manufacturing, and service teams
  • Long-term growth within a well-established, growing organization
  • Direct hire with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, PTO, paid holidays, 401(k) with company match, and life insurance
Qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or genetic information
