Job Description

Quantum Space is redefining mobility and maneuverability in space. Our high-mobility spacecraft platforms support national security, civil, and commercial missions with unmatched flexibility and propulsion capability. We build fast and iterate quickly.

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking a technically skilled and hands-on Electrical Engineer II to support the development of specialized spacecraft electronics for next-generation Ranger missions. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, integration, qualification, and flight delivery of high-reliability avionics and spacecraft electronics supporting long-duration, high-mobility space missions.

Working closely with systems, mechanical, thermal, RF communications, FPGA, software, and integration engineers, you will help develop flight-ready electronics from early concept through spacecraft integration and launch. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced development environment and enjoys solving complex technical challenges while building hardware that flies.

You'll Make an Impact

  • Support the development of specialized spacecraft electronics from concept, prototyping, and design through integration, qualification, and flight delivery

  • Design and develop analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics supporting spacecraft avionics, communications, embedded electronics, and vehicle subsystems

  • Develop schematic capture and multi-layer PCB designs for flight and flight-like hardware

  • Perform hardware bring-up, electrical troubleshooting, validation testing, and anomaly resolution activities

  • Collaborate with systems, RF communications, mechanical, thermal, FPGA, software, and integration teams to deliver fully integrated spacecraft electronics

  • Support hardware integration, verification, and validation during spacecraft assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) campaigns

  • Participate in engineering reviews including System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), Test Readiness Review (TRR), and Flight Readiness Review (FRR)

  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation including schematics, interface control documents (ICDs), requirements, verification artifacts, and test procedures

  • Contribute to design trade studies, technical assessments, and multidisciplinary engineering reviews

  • Improve hardware reliability, manufacturability, and mission readiness through continuous engineering improvements

  • Support multiple spacecraft development efforts within a dynamic, fast-paced engineering environment

What It Takes

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline

  • 3+ years of experience developing electronics hardware for aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability applications

  • Experience designing electrical communication interfaces including RS-422, RS-485, CAN, LVDS, I2C, and SPI

  • Strong understanding of analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics fundamentals

  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, and ECAD design tools

  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), power supplies, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers

  • Experience supporting hardware integration, debugging, validation testing, and root-cause investigations

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems and resolve hardware anomalies

  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Comfortable operating within a fast-paced, iterative spacecraft development environment

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline

  • Direct experience developing spacecraft or other flight-qualified electronics

  • Experience using the Cadence ECAD suite, including OrCAD Capture and Allegro PCB Designer

  • Experience designing mixed-signal, timing-critical, high-density, multi-layer PCB assemblies

  • Familiarity with EEE component derating methodologies and spaceflight design standards, including NASA INST-002

  • Experience conducting schematic reviews, hardware peer reviews, and design verification activities

  • Experience designing high-speed communication interfaces including LVDS, SpaceWire, and Gigabit Ethernet

  • Experience integrating ultra stable oscillators and precision timing hardware

  • Hands-on experience supporting spacecraft Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T)

  • Familiarity with spacecraft avionics architectures, embedded electronics, and flight hardware qualification

  • Experience supporting environmental testing including thermal vacuum (TVAC), vibration, EMI/EMC, and other qualification campaigns

What You'll Get

  • Ownership – Contribute directly to the development of mission-critical spacecraft electronics supporting advanced Ranger missions

  • Innovation – Help develop next-generation spacecraft avionics and communications architectures enabling high-mobility space operations

  • Impact – Deliver reliable, flight-ready electronics supporting national security, civil, and commercial space missions

  • Growth – Join a collaborative engineering team working across spacecraft development, integration, qualification, and mission execution

  • Compensation – Competitive salary, equity, and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, generous leave, FSA, 401(k) matching, and equity sharing

Location: Rockville, MD or Hawthorne, CA or Denver, CO

Base Salary: $100,000-$125,000

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of Quantum Space's total compensation package.
