Job Description
The Electrical Engineer Intern performs related duties in the development of AC and DC power conversion hardware at the system and circuit level. Focus will be analyzing and confirming electrical components related to sustaining lifetime cycle hardware. This position is onsite in San Diego, CA. It is a year-round intern position with the expectation to work 20-28 hours during the school year with the opportunity to work full-time during breaks.
Responsibilities:
End of Life Components Selection
Contribute to a critical initiative addressing component obsolescence and supply chain challenges. Research and identify suitable replacement components for obsolete or high-risk parts, including analyzing supplier-proposed alternatives. Collaborate with engineering and QA teams to ensure replacements meet performance and safety standards.
Component Validation Testing
Assist in coordinating component procurement and prototype builds. Collaborate with engineers to test and analyze data and confirm performance standards. Write Engineering Change Orders to implement the new component selection into product Bill of Materials.
High Voltage Lab Testing
Assist in the verification of new features for developing projects. Actively participate in high voltage, high power testing of AC/DC outputs and power electronics topologies for sustaining and new products.
Qualifications:
- Junior or Senior year studying Electrical Engineering.
- Laboratory experience and knowledge of analytical devices such as DMM and oscilloscopes.
- Proficient in common engineering design tools, such as simulation software, mathematical analysis, schematic capture, MS Excel/Word, and database applications.
- Good interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to multitask effectively and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to commit min 20 to 28 hours per week during school year.
Preferred Skills (Not Required):
- Previous internship experience.
- Knowledge of PWB layout software (Altium, PADs, OrCAD).
- Knowledge with design of analog and digital electronics, working experience a plus.
- Knowledge in the use of PC-based development and firmware tools (C, C++, Visual Basic) for microcontrollers, DSPs, and user interface control (data communications, GUIs).

Working in one of the best climates in the world, San Diego.

Employee Type: Hourly
Salary Minimum: $55,000
Salary Maximum: $60,000
