Job Description

Electrical Engineer – Offshore Oil & Gas

A Houston-based engineering organization is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support upstream and offshore oil & gas projects from early-stage design through construction and commissioning.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys remaining technically hands-on and seeing their designs progress from concept through fabrication and construction. The position will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting offshore production facilities, platforms, pipelines, and related infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical engineering deliverables including single-line diagrams, construction work packages, electrical studies, specifications, and procurement packages.

  • Design LV and MV electrical power distribution systems for offshore and upstream oil & gas production facilities.

  • Perform electrical system studies using ETAP and/or SKM, including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and protection coordination studies.

  • Conduct hazardous area classification studies and ensure electrical equipment meets applicable requirements for classified environments.

  • Support electrical design of E-Houses and associated systems for offshore production facilities.

  • Develop electrical load studies and determine power generation requirements, including black-start capabilities.

  • Prepare conceptual and preliminary electrical designs to support project development and bidding.

  • Develop manhour estimates and electrical scopes for project proposals.

  • Coordinate with engineering disciplines, designers, vendors, clients, and contractors throughout project execution.

  • Review electrical drawings and technical documentation prior to issue for construction.

  • Participate in constructability reviews and provide recommendations to improve installation and construction efficiency.

  • Provide technical support during fabrication, construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.

  • Support root cause analysis of electrical failures and power quality issues.

  • Review vendor documentation and respond to technical questions throughout project execution.

  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for assigned electrical packages.

  • Travel periodically to fabrication yards and vendor facilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year university.

  • Approximately 5–8 years of electrical engineering experience preferred.

  • Experience supporting upstream and/or offshore oil & gas projects strongly preferred.

  • Experience designing electrical systems for oil & gas production facilities.

  • Strong understanding of LV/MV power distribution systems and electrical equipment.

  • Hands-on experience with ETAP and/or SKM Power Tools.

  • Knowledge of load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and protection coordination studies.

  • Familiarity with hazardous area classifications and applicable NEC, IEC, NFPA, and API standards.

  • Experience with electrical single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and procurement packages.

  • Familiarity with offshore engineering and fabrication practices preferred.

  • Exposure to subsea power transitions and fiber-optic interfaces is a plus.

  • AutoCAD experience is beneficial.

  • Strong communication, organization, and multidisciplinary coordination skills.

  • Ability to remain technically hands-on while managing multiple project priorities.

This opportunity is ideal for an Electrical Engineer who wants to remain deeply involved in technical design while supporting offshore oil & gas projects through the full engineering, fabrication, construction, and commissioning lifecycle.
