Role Overview

This role is part of the Catawba Nuclear Station Operations Support Engineering- Electrical (OSE-E) department. OSE-E is the ongoing technical owner of the plant's electrical and digital systems. The team ensures that critical electrical power, control systems, network infrastructure, and cyber-related equipment remain reliable, compliant, and capable of supporting safe nuclear operations.

OSE-Electrical engineers are the system experts responsible for understanding how key electrical and digital systems are designed, how they perform, what risks exist, and what actions are needed to maintain long-term plant reliability and operability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor the health and performance of plant electrical systems through preventive maintenance program support.
  • Conduct inspections and/or walkdowns in the plant.
  • Identify, trend and resolve equipment issues.
  • Provide technical oversight and engineering support to the Maintenance and Operations departments.
  • Maintain long-term system reliability.
  • Support operability, equipment ageing and equipment replacement decisions.

Systems and Equipment Knowledge You Bring

  • Digital Process Systems (DPS): Ovation Controls System.
  • Instrumentation and Controls for Analog Control Systems: 7300 Protection System and Solid-State Protection System.
  • Network Infrastructure Equipment: Servers, Firewalls, Diodes, and other Defensive Architecture Equipment.

Basic / Required Qualifications- Engineer III

Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relevant experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering.
  • A Master 's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience.

Basic / Required Qualifications- Senior Nuclear Engineer

Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relevant experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering.
  • A Master 's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the utility industry.
  • Familiarity with Instrumentation and Controls for analog control systems (7300 Protection System, Solid State Protection), and Digital Process systems (Ovation Controls system).
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure equipment including servers, firewalls, diodes, and other defensive architecture equipment.
  • Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

Additional Requirements

  • In lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified.
  • Must be able to obtain Unescorted Authorized Access (UAA) at a nuclear power plant.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed.
  • Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.

Work Environment

  • An office environment within an operating nuclear power station.
  • 4-day work week (Monday- Thursday).
  • Infrequent overtime outside of emergent and outage work.
  • Hybrid work arrangement: after onboarding, employees must work onsite at Catawba Nuclear Station at least two days per week, with two remote days.
