Job Title:

Electrical Project Engineer

Reporting To:

Management, General Engineering

Work Schedule:

Onsite – Buffalo, NY

Our Space Sector is looking for an Electrical Project Engineer to join the Actuation and Avionics FastWorks Team. In this position you will drive the execution of quick-turn, technically complex actuation and avionics hardware programs. You will own design, build, test, and delivery activities across electronic and electromechanical domains.  You will work with other engineering functions, A&T, operations, supply chain, and have direct customer interaction.

This is a hands-on role that requires technical breadth, practical lab experience, and strong program ownership. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying project needs throughout all phases of execution and addressing any gaps that arise. Electrical Engineering background is highly recommended for this position. You will report to the FastWorks Staff Manager and will have an onsite work schedule in East Aurora, New York.

FastWorks focus areas

  • Support Core Business by enabling fast execution in the development portion of programs
  • Improve processes by testing new approaches and mindsets.
  • Support emerging customers that require flexible, fast engagement.

You will be central to the execution of this approach and strategy. The FastWorks team frequently adapts to different roles and responsibilities to minimize task handoffs and expedite a project's progress through its life cycle.  The FastWorks team is asked to solve problems in non-traditional ways. Because of varied responsibilities and various product lines, there may be periods of time when your primary focus is not project engineering.

As an Electrical Project Engineer, you will:

  • Work on highly complex tasks across multiple projects and often require innovative solutions under minimal supervision.  Supervision is generally required in the form of technical consultation, and you’ll be given general direction and expected to drive tasks to completion. You will be a “guided missile”, solving project engineering challenges.
  • Interact with other employees and display an understanding of company values to both internal and external customers.  You’ll be a project driver and exert ownership over multiple aspects of multiple projects.
  • Switch between different internal responsibilities including Assembly and Test, resource coordination across the plant and campus, external supplier communication, strategic coordination between different departments and business units.
  • Effectively train other employees and give presentations to audiences (internal or external) and effectively represent your team on review panels and cross-organizational teams.  Write convincing documents, proposals, or other items with all backup material needed for external consumption.
  • Drive efforts for design reviews, customer visits, and demonstrations. Travel to customer sites or other locations for program efforts having a direct influence and interaction with external customers.
  • Participate in tasks that have an impact not only on their team, but also other teams being a key resource for tasks that have a large level of impact outside of your role.
  • Take the initiative to learn new tools and technologies and demonstrate a high level of knowledge of technical competency in multiple areas.

To be considered for the Electrical Project Engineer role, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with minimum 5 years of EE Design experience or an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering with minimum 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to access U.S. export-controlled information
  • Demonstrated understanding of electronics, gained through experience in the design, analysis, development and production of complex electrical hardware and electromechanical systems.
  • Comfortable in a lab environment or at an external test site. Familiarity with electronic test equipment and test practices.
  • Ability to understand project needs and identify steps required to advance project forward.
  • Understanding and balance between driving forces behind the design that are not solely focused on design elegance, but include end use, cost, manufacturability, timing, supply chain stability and resource availability.
  • Strong analytical skills, required to fulfill the demands of design and development of new products and to develop solutions in concert with customer requirements, A&T, supply chain, contracts and other groups connected to Design and Development of new products.
  • Experience with circuit analysis design, board layout, and test equipment design.
  • The ability to effectively communicate technical and programmatic information and to manage competing priorities of multiple stakeholders.

It’d be great if you also had:

  • Familiarity with embedded systems/firmware, power electronics, or avionics standards.
  • Experience with PCB CAD tools, test automation (e.g., LabVIEW), or DFx practices.
  • Prior experience in rapid prototyping or fast-paced development environments

Location & work schedule

  • Onsite in East Aurora, New York. Travel approximately 10% to customer or supplier sites as required.

How We Care For You:

  • Financial Rewards: great compensation package, annual profit sharing, matching 401k and the ability to participate in Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts
