Why This Role
This is a high-impact opportunity to step into a lead electrical safety role at one of the nation's most critical national security laboratories. As the Electrical Safety Officer at LANL's PF-4 facility, you'll serve as the subject matter expert for electrical safety - directly influencing field operations, compliance, and hazard mitigation across construction and facility teams working on mission-critical plutonium infrastructure.
This role is for someone who is equally comfortable in the field and with the code book - an independent critical thinker who can work without being micromanaged, navigate complex compliance requirements, and thrive as part of a high-performing team.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert and authority for electrical safety across PF-4 operations and construction activities
- Administer the Electrical Safety Program and ensure compliance with NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, OSHA, and DOE standards
- Conduct field inspections to identify and mitigate electrical hazards in real time
- Lead reviews of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and Integrated Work Documents (IWDs)
- Support construction and facility teams on proper implementation of electrical safe work practices
- Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions
- Develop and improve electrical safety procedures, policies, and program standards
- Provide technical guidance to engineers, planners, and field personnel on electrical safety requirements
- Evaluate systems and equipment for electrical safety compliance
- Stand for extended periods during field inspections and job site walkthroughs
Schedule Details
You will start on 12-hour day shifts during a training and onboarding period of approximately 6 months. After that, the schedule transitions to a rotating days/nights arrangement. This structure is intentional - the team wants to set you up for success before splitting shifts. Long-term travel support is provided.

- Strong ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences
