Why This Role

This is a high-impact opportunity to step into a lead electrical safety role at one of the nation's most critical national security laboratories. As the Electrical Safety Officer at LANL's PF-4 facility, you'll serve as the subject matter expert for electrical safety - directly influencing field operations, compliance, and hazard mitigation across construction and facility teams working on mission-critical plutonium infrastructure.

This role is for someone who is equally comfortable in the field and with the code book - an independent critical thinker who can work without being micromanaged, navigate complex compliance requirements, and thrive as part of a high-performing team.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert and authority for electrical safety across PF-4 operations and construction activities
  • Administer the Electrical Safety Program and ensure compliance with NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, OSHA, and DOE standards
  • Conduct field inspections to identify and mitigate electrical hazards in real time
  • Lead reviews of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and Integrated Work Documents (IWDs)
  • Support construction and facility teams on proper implementation of electrical safe work practices
  • Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions
  • Develop and improve electrical safety procedures, policies, and program standards
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers, planners, and field personnel on electrical safety requirements
  • Evaluate systems and equipment for electrical safety compliance
  • Stand for extended periods during field inspections and job site walkthroughs

Schedule Details

You will start on 12-hour day shifts during a training and onboarding period of approximately 6 months. After that, the schedule transitions to a rotating days/nights arrangement. This structure is intentional - the team wants to set you up for success before splitting shifts. Long-term travel support is provided.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree + 7 years of electrical field experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards- NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and OSHA (NFPA 70E is the core requirement)
  • Hands-on field experience - this role requires someone who can work in the field, not just behind a desk
  • Experience with low voltage AC and DC systems in commercial, industrial, or DOE environments
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform field walkthroughs
  • 100% onsite availability - no hybrid or remote

Preferred:

  • DOE, NNSA, or nuclear facility experience
  • Licensed electrician (Inside Wireman, Journeyman, or similar)
  • Experience supporting construction or facility operations in regulated environments
  • Familiarity with Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) and LOTO procedures in a nuclear or DOE setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound technical judgment without close supervision
