Job Description
Job Title: Electrician - Underground
Project: Nevada Project
Reports to: Electrical Supervisor
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB(Summary)
Performs the installation, maintenance, and repair of all surface and underground site electrical equipment, including but not limited to:
- All surface and underground power distribution
- All surface and underground instrumentation
- All surface and underground electrical equipment related to shaft sinking, hoisting plants and underground development work
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand the company policies and work in accordance with the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA)
- Ensure personal protective equipment is used as required
- Be a "Leader in Safety" ensure all work proceeds under safe work conditions, procedures are followed using proper equipment (including personal protective equipment), support is provided to project personnel to "Stop and Correct" unsafe situations and information is passed on, including near misses so the company can take action to continually improve workplace safety for all
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in their workplace
- Follow established procedures in shutting down and disassembling equipment, replacing damaged or worn parts and reassembling and testing equipment to perform to required specifications
- Isolate electrical power to equipment for others as required in accordance with the Project lock out procedures
- Receive oral or written instructions from supervisor, including wiring diagrams and/or schematics, and select required materials and equipment to perform the job
- Work collaboratively with other trades personnel and crew members
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with current codes
- Ensure all required logbooks are maintained and updated. Submit oral and written reports relevant to job duties
- Troubleshoot equipment using a digital multimeter and by referring to wiring diagrams and schematics
- Test cable and motor winding insulation resistance using a Meghohmeter "Megger"
- Repair and maintain all equipment in accordance with the preventative maintenance program
- Other such duties as may be assigned
- Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
- Fully support and actively participate in the team safety program based on culture and innovation
- PLC Troubleshooting & Maintenance-Must be able to independently troubleshoot and repair complex automated systems. Including diagnosing PLC hardware issues (I/O modules, power supplies), and utilizing software (e.g., RSLogix) to monitor and trace ladder logic for efficient fault-finding.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Technical degree, High School or Equivalent
CERTIFICATE(S), LICENSE(S), REGISTRATION(S)
- Electrical Trade Certificate
- Valid Drivers Certificate
- Valid certificate of qualification
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Must have a good understanding of the electrical systems, electrical procedures, and maintenance programs.
Additional skills preferred or willingness to learn:
- Experience with radio and network communications infrastructure (LTE, Leaky Feeder, LAN, fiber optics)
- Instrumentation experience
- Fall Arrest
- Working at Heights
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Strong aptitude with ability to perform routine equipment maintenance
- Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed
- Able to effectively prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met
- Good communication skills and ability to work with others
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT
10% office, 90% mine operations
Pre-Employment Qualifications:
- Pre-employment drug, alcohol, and medical testing
- Criminal Record Check
- Possess a valid Journeyperson Electrician Certificate preferred
- Part 48 Underground MSHA training preferred
- Minimum 3 years of work related experience as a licensed Journeyperson Electrician preferred
