Job Description

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.

SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As an Operations Electrician, you will keep in-service substations, distribution, and campus power facilities running. This is an operating-plant job: inspect, maintain, switch, and restore equipment so load stays up. You will work with energized medium- and high-voltage systems under established safety standards, perform switching and operations up to 161 kV, and respond to faults and call-outs. This position is based in Memphis, TN.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair in-service substation and campus electrical equipment, including breakers, transformers, switches, relays, buswork, control systems, and station batteries.
  • Perform medium-voltage switching and operations up to 161 kV: write or follow switching orders, isolate and de-energize equipment, apply grounds, verify zero energy, and restore equipment to service.
  • Own routine maintenance on medium- and high-voltage operating systems: inspections, lubrication, oil levels, heaters, lights, and connections.
  • Respond to outages, faults, alarms, and call-outs; restore service and document what happened.
  • Conduct electrical testing on in-service equipment (voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, insulation megger) and assist with relay, transformer, and circuit breaker tests.
  • Read and interpret one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and switching orders.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control issues on running plant.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), grounding, clearance procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Coordinate switching and clearances with operators, engineers, and utility crews during planned and emergency outages.
  • Document work performed, test results, and observations; keep operating records current.
  • Operate company vehicles and specialized equipment; inspect and store personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform similar or less skilled incidental duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • 3+ years of experience working as a licensed electrician.
  • Medium-voltage electrical experience, including switching and operations.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance technology.
  • Journeyman or master electrician license.
  • Switching and operations experience on systems up to 161 kV (substation, industrial, or utility).
  • Experience with medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, and distribution in substations, industrial plants, or data centers.
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles (AC/DC circuits, safety standards).
  • Ability to read prints/drawings and use common test tools.
  • Proficiency with hand/power tools and physical tasks (lifting 50+ lbs, working at heights/confined spaces, outdoors in all weather).
  • Strong safety focus, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in teams.
  • Knowledge of print reading for drawings, manuals, and one-lines.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Schedule varies depending on site operational needs; frequent overtime and weekend support is required.
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights.
  • Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, noise, heat, cold, and rain.
