Overview

Genesee Lake School is seeking a Special Education Teacher to join their team in Oconomowoc!

Why Join Us?

Are you passionate about making a real, lasting impact in special education? In this role, you won't just teach—you’ll advocate for students, foster their independence, and design personalized learning environments where every learner thrives.

We maintain small class sizes (averaging 7 to 9 students) so you can build deep relationships, provide individualized attention, and truly see the results of your work every single day.

What You’ll Do:

  • Empower & Educate: Design and deliver creative, student-centered lessons using thematic units that build confidence, independence, and a strong sense of self-worth.
  • Lead the IEP Process: Serve as Case Manager for your caseload, facilitating IEP meetings and tracking growth through regular progress reporting.
  • Guide & Mentor Support Staff: Lead and direct your classroom support team—including Instructional Aides and Educational/Direct Support Professionals (ESPs/DSPs)—to create a unified learning environment.
  • Collaborate for Student Success: Partner closely with clinical, behavioral, and interdisciplinary teams to implement Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Adapt & Innovate: Stay flexible in adapting teaching strategies to meet evolving student needs using supportive, agency-approved care and intervention techniques

What We’re Looking For:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Elementary/Secondary Education, Human Services, or a related field (or anticipated graduation date).
  • Certification: State Teaching Certification in Special Education (or eligible for alternative/provisional licensure).
  • Skills: Strong communication, empathy, team leadership, and a commitment to trauma-informed, student-centered care.
  • Mindset: Growth-oriented, adaptable, and eager to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

What We Offer / Perks:

  • Manageable Class Sizes: Average of 6–10 students per classroom for true individualized instruction.
  • Built-in Support: Classroom aides and behavior specialists working right alongside you.
  • Mentorship & Career Growth: Hands-on support from experienced educators and administrative leaders.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Health, vision, dental, retirement plan options, generous paid time off, and professional development support.
  • Competitive Salaries: Range from $54,000- $72,000 ; based upon experience + licensures
