Job Description: Custodian - Substitute position

Job Summary
To ensure that school facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition to provide students and staff with an environment conducive to learning.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, and other school areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, disinfect, and empty trash as assigned.
- Assist with setup and cleanup for school and community events.
- Maintain the safety and appearance of school grounds, including sidewalks and entryways.
- Perform minor maintenance or repairs as directed.
- Report any major maintenance issues or safety concerns promptly.
- Secure the building after school hours, ensuring doors and windows are locked.
- Operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively (e.g., buffers, floor scrubbers).
- Follow proper procedures for handling and storing cleaning supplies and chemicals.
- Support the district's commitment to safety and positive public relations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor.
Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Demonstrates dependability, integrity, and a positive work ethic.
- Maintains a neat, clean, and professional appearance.
- Prior custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently.
- Willingness to be fingerprinted and complete a background check.

Terms of Employment
- On an as-needed basis to cover custodial absences or vacancies.
- May include daytime or evening.
