Job Description

This is a paid internship, working 16 hours per week from Monday, July 6, 2026 - Friday, December 18, 2026. Current Salary is $19.61 per hour.

Position Summary:

The Email & Lifecycle Marketing intern will be part of the Audience Development team whose goal is to ensure that the value of KQED's public media mission extends consistently into all audience-facing touchpoints on digital, primarily across email and KQED's owned channels like KQED.org and 88.5FM. The role works closely with the Audience Development Email Marketing Strategist and Marketing Manager, and team members across Content, Membership, Product, IT and Creative, to execute strategic campaigns, build an audience-first experience across newsletters, emails and other owned channels, and help execute day-to-day email and other lifecycle marketing needs.

KQED provide citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media. We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas.

This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely.

Essential Functions:

  • Support newsletter and email development by sourcing digital assets, writing copy, building the email, and scheduling
  • Track, analyze, and measure email performance data against KPIs and share findings with newsletter stakeholders
  • Support the execution and reporting on of KQED's owned and earned digital channels (e.g. Google Grants via Google Ads, house ads on KQED.org, copywriting radio cross-promotions)
  • Manage inventory and support operations for the KQED Merchandise Kiosk and Photobooth
  • Support optimizing KQED's email lead-generation tactics across the website and social media platforms, brainstorm ideas for enhancing sign up experience, and help implement A/B testing with various campaigns
  • Help execute strategic efforts in growing newsletter subscribers
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest marketing innovations, trends, and best practices and share insights with the Email Marketing Strategist and Marketing Manager
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to better optimize marketing strategy and campaigns

Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • Interest in email and marketing
  • Experience editing and writing copy for emails, paid google search, newsletters, or other promotional materials
  • Ability to effectively find, collect, assimilate, and analyze data
  • Strong writing skills
  • Willingness to learn and participate
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Knowledge/Experience Desired

  • Experience using an email service provider, Engaging Networks a plus
  • Experience managing and reporting on paid search campaigns (Google Ads preferred)
  • Have experience with workflow apps and software such as Google Docs/Sheets/Slides and Slack
  • Have an interest in public media
  • A sharp eye for design and aesthetics and an interest in brand merchandise
  • Experience using Canva or Adobe Photoshop to create graphics or other digital assets
  • Curiosity about audience behavior and tendencies across digital platforms
  • Have love for the Bay!
