Job Description

The mission of the Lorain County Office of Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is to serve the citizens of Lorain County through effective planning for natural and man-made disasters. Our goal is to save lives and to protect property through coordination of an integrated emergency management system with all emergency response organizations, support services and volunteers.

Under general direction, the Emergency Management Deputy Director assists with operations and coordinating County emergency disaster preparation, mitigation, response, and recovery; assists with coordinating emergency management activities and homeland security; oversees operational programs; maintains appropriate databases and reporting requirements; and acts as liaison with officials in the public.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Management or related field with knowledge and/or experience in the structure of local and state government; emergency services and other emergency operations; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must be able to complete required training as adopted by Administrative Rule 4501:3-5-01
  • Must possess a current valid Ohio vehicle operator's license and maintain continuing eligibility for coverage under the existing vehicle insurance policy held by the County.
  • Requires 24/7 availability to respond to an emergency scene or to manage the Emergency Operations Center during crisis (as needed).
  • ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 Licenses, FEMA Professional Development Series (PDS) and Advanced PDS required within 3 years.
  • Knowledge of Federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding disaster services and Emergency Management programs.
  • Knowledge of Safety procedures and warning systems utilized in disaster planning; emergency management planning.
  • Knowledge of Government grant programs, grant management and compliance

Please note that is position is completely in person- successful candidates must live within 30 minutes of Lorain County EMA or be willing to relocate if they are hired.
