Job Summary:
The Emergency Management Coordinator, in collaboration with the Director, is responsibleâ¯for developing, implementing, andâ¯maintainingâ¯the organization’s emergency preparedness and safety programs to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role coordinates emergency planning activities, regulatory compliance, training, drills, and incident response in alignment with federal, state, and accreditation requirements. Theâ¯Coordinatorâ¯works collaboratively with internal departments, community partners, and regional emergency management agencies to supportâ¯an organized, effective response to disasters and critical events.â¯Additionalâ¯responsibilities include program documentation, committee facilitation, data tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives.â¯
Essential Duties & Responsibilitiesâ¯
Emergency Preparedness Program Support
- Assists the Director to develop,â¯maintain, and update Emergency Operations Plans (EOP), vulnerability and hazard assessments, policies, and proceduresâ¯in accordance withâ¯CMS, OSHA, NIMS, HICS, DNV/TJC, and state regulatory requirements.â¯Theâ¯plan scopeâ¯encompasses theâ¯hospitalâ¯main campus and surrounding location facilities located in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.â¯
- Coordinates with Departments to maintain emergency notification & communication systems (e.g., Alert Media, Attenuator Speakers,â¯Amateur Radio), including staff training, system updates, and test alerts.â¯â¯As well as monitoring of emergency supplies and response equipment inventory.â¯
- Tracks and summarizes monthly/quarterly readiness checklists.â¯
- Supports quality and safety projects, data analysis, and construction related safety planningâ¯for life safety compliance activities.â¯
Training & Educationâ¯
- Supports Incident Commandâ¯training and preparation toâ¯activate,â¯activationâ¯assistancewhenâ¯requested,â¯and may serve in assigned ICS roles during drills and real events.â¯Monitors compliance with required training such as ICS100, ICS200, ICS700, and ICSâ¯
- Provides orientation for new employees and leaders on emergency procedures, safety codes, and organizational response expectations.â¯
- Coordinates emergency preparedness drills and exercises, including tabletop, functional, and full-scaleevents;â¯completesâ¯After Action Reports (AARs) and improvement plans.
- Coordinates orâ¯assistsâ¯with de-escalation, workplace violence prevention, and safety related training programs, such-as Run-Hide-Fight, MOAB.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety Oversightâ¯
- Assists Directors during accreditation survey and other compliance reviews as requested, fire drills, safety inspections, and corrective action planning
- Conducts orâ¯participatesâ¯in Environment of Care (EOC) rounds across all departments and clinics.â¯
- Maintains Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensures compliance with hazardous materials and waste management regulations.â¯â¯
Committee & Collaboration Responsibilitiesâ¯
- Coordinates orâ¯participatesâ¯in committees such as:â¯
- Safety Committeeâ¯
- Emergency Preparednessâ¯Committeeâ¯
- Workplace Violence & Injury Prevention Committeeâ¯
- Local or regional emergency management coalitionsâ¯
- Maintains meeting agendas, minutes, attendance, and documentation.â¯
- Customer service
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problemâsolving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including public speaking.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective during emergencies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and emergency management software platforms.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and with external agencies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Education and Training:
- Associate’s degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience:
- Experience in emergency management, healthcare safety, or related field preferred.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulatory standards (CMS, OSHA, NIMS, HICS, DNV/TJC).
- Experience conducting drills, training, or incident response activities preferred.
