Job Description

The Employee Relations Manager is a trusted advisor to leaders, managers, HR Business Partners, and associates, providing expert guidance on complex employee relations matters across our manufacturing plant onsite in Sandy, UT. This role partners closely with business and HR leaders to navigate workplace investigations, performance management, employment law compliance, risk mitigation, and conflict resolution while fostering a positive and compliant employee experience. The ideal candidate combines strong business acumen, sound judgment, and exceptional relationship-building skills to influence decisions, proactively address workforce challenges, and drive best-in-class employee relations practices.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Works collaboratively with and provides day-to-day coaching and employee relations advice to Senior Business Unit, Functional and Regional leaders, managers, HRBP’s, and associates.
  • Reviews and assists managers in reviewing corrective action, performance management, and completes all termination documentation.
  • Identifies and analyzes legal/compliance risks in employment situations.
  • Partners with the Labor & Employment Legal team to review and make recommendations on complex issues, such as terminations, investigations, and medical issues/accommodations, to effectively mitigate company risk.
  • Stays current by keeping abreast of the latest developments and changes in employment laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Conducts internal investigations, documents findings, and makes recommendations to management as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with the Global Learning team to develop and deploy manager effectiveness, HR compliance, and other employee relation-related training programs.
  • Provides support to managers and other HR functions throughout the annual performance review process, including review of annual performance reviews.
  • Tracks and interprets trends in employee relations to proactively identify issues and develop training and other solutions.
  • Partners or leads projects/initiatives within the team to promote a culture of continuous improvement and best-in-class standing by creating proactive measures and initiatives to address employee relations issues and identify and implement best practices.
  • Partners with HRBPs/Sr leaders to proactively reduce employee relations issues by monitoring and analyzing employee relations trends to identify root causes and taking appropriate steps to reduce issues.

Education and Experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management, Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
  • 6+ years of progressive Employee Relations experience, including managing a broad range of complex, high-risk, and sensitive employment matters from intake and investigation through resolution and follow-up.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting manufacturing and supply chain industries, providing Employee Relations guidance for both hourly and salaried populations within medium-to-large-scale environments (800+ associates).
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and risk mitigation, including expertise in ADA, FLSA, Title VII, FMLA, USERRA, and other applicable federal, state, and local employment regulations, with the ability to balance business objectives, regulatory compliance, and employee experience.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility and effectively partner with leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven experience advising exempt professionals and senior leadership on complex employee relations matters, including performance management, talent development, organizational effectiveness, and risk mitigation strategies.

Knowledge and Skills required:

  • Experience working in fast-paced, dynamic environments, demonstrating agility, resilience, and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities while adapting to evolving business needs.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information clearly and effectively to audiences at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking capabilities, with proven ability to exercise sound judgment and make well-informed decisions based on policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, risk assessment, and established precedent.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a demonstrated ability to inspire trust, influence stakeholders, navigate sensitive situations, and drive effective decision-making across diverse business groups.
  • Demonstrates uncompromising integrity and sound ethical judgment, consistently doing what is right for employees and the organization. Maintains the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, fairness, and compliance when managing sensitive and complex employee relations matters.
  • Requires up to 10% travel based on business needs.

Preferred qualifications:

  • SPHR or PHR preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish an asset
