Job Description
A well-established Iowa law firm is seeking an experienced Employment & Litigation Attorney to join its growing practice. This position is ideal for an attorney who enjoys a combination of employment/labor counseling and civil litigation and is interested in a long-term opportunity with a path to firm ownership.
Responsibilities
- Handle employment, labor, and civil litigation matters from inception through resolution or trial.
- Counsel employers on workplace issues, including discipline, termination, leave, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, and investigations.
- Handle discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, restrictive covenant, and other employment-related claims.
- Represent clients before the EEOC, Iowa Civil Rights Commission, Department of Labor, and other agencies.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, employment agreements, policies, handbooks, and related documents.
- Take and defend depositions and participate in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
- Develop strong client relationships and participate in business development.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- 5+ years of employment law, labor law, and/or related litigation experience.
- Active Iowa Bar admission or ability to obtain admission promptly.
- Strong litigation, legal writing, negotiation, and client counseling skills.
- Ability to independently manage cases and client relationships.
- Employer-side, public-sector, trial, arbitration, or administrative hearing experience is a plus.
