Job Description

Position Summary

The Energy Supply Intern provides hands-on support to CoServ’s Energy Resources team while gaining practical experience in wholesale electricity and natural gas markets. This role is designed for college-level students who are interested in energy markets, utilities, data analysis, and business operations.

The intern will assist with data collection, reporting, and basic analysis while working closely with experienced energy supply professionals. The position emphasizes learning, exposure to real-world utility operations, and development of foundational analytical and professional skills.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Facilitates project activities and coordinates with other teams to produce better business outcomes.
  • Assist with collecting and organizing data related to wholesale electricity and natural gas markets (e.g., ERCOT load, prices, outages).
  • Support the development and maintenance of Excel-based reports used to monitor daily market activity and energy positions.
  • Assists in the coordination of project meetings, interactive sessions, and team collaboration workshops.
  • Provide basic analytical support for short-term energy purchasing and hedging activities under close supervision.
  • Assist in preparing presentations, summaries, and reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Attend and observe daily operations or market meetings to gain exposure to short-term market activity and hedging strategies.
  • Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines.
  • Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Secondary Position Responsibilities

  • Assist with process improvement initiatives and simple automation of routine tasks.
  • Conduct introductory research on ERCOT market trends, regulations, and energy industry topics.
  • Collaborate with other departments on cross-functional projects as appropriate.
  • Participate in training sessions, workshops, or learning opportunities provided by the organization.
  • Perform other duties and activities as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education and Certifications Required

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, mathematics, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Completion of at least sophomore-level coursework preferred.

Education and Certifications Preferred

  • Coursework related to energy markets, economics, finance, statistics, or data analysis.

Experience Required

  • No prior professional experience required.
  • Academic projects, internships, or part-time work involving data analysis, research, or business support are a plus.

Experience Preferred

  • Exposure to utilities, energy markets, finance, or analytics through coursework, internships, or student organizations

Skills and Abilities Required

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with teammates.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team setting.

Skills and Abilities Preferred

  • Familiarity with Power BI or other data visualization tools.
  • Interest in programming or data analytics (e.g., VBA, Python, SQL).
  • Demonstrated curiosity about energy markets and emerging technologies.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in an indoor office environment.
  • Ability to attend in-person meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Occasional travel for training or professional development may be required.
  • Works extended hours as needed or directed.

Other Requirements

  • Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Attends additional required continuing education training and workshops, as assigned.
