Our Gillette location provides reliable 24/7 support with a focus on keeping equipment running in demanding environments.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Engine Rebuild Technician to join our in-shop team in Gillette, Wyoming. This role specializes in full ground-up rebuilds, in-frame overhauls, and complete engine overhauls on MTU, Detroit, and Allison-powered equipment. The position is primarily shop-based, repetitive in nature, and demands precision, strong mechanical aptitude, and meticulous attention to detail to ensure every rebuild meets factory specifications and delivers long-term reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complete engine rebuilds, including disassembly, inspection, machining preparation, parts replacement, reassembly, and testing of MTU, Detroit Diesel, and other heavy-duty engines.
  • Execute in-frame overhauls and full out-of-frame overhauls with a focus on precision and quality.
  • Work on Allison transmissions and related components as needed in conjunction with engine projects.
  • Conduct thorough inspections, measurements, and diagnostics to identify wear, damage, or required repairs.
  • Follow detailed service manuals, technical bulletins, and OEM procedures to maintain warranty and performance standards.
  • Prepare engines/transmissions for dyno testing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the rebuild shop.
  • Document all work performed, including parts used, measurements, and test results.
  • Collaborate with service advisors, parts personnel, and other technicians to ensure efficient workflow.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in diesel engine rebuilding, with specific expertise in full ground-up rebuilds and in-frame/overhaul work on heavy-duty engines (MTU and/or Detroit Diesel experience strongly preferred).
  • Familiarity with Allison transmissions is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read blueprints, schematics, and precision measuring tools (micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, etc.).
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship in a repetitive, high-precision environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting production timelines.
  • Experience with engine dyno testing and performance validation is preferred but not required; training provided as needed.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in diesel mechanics or related field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift heavy components and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior work in mining, oil & gas, or heavy equipment service environments.
  • Certification or training from MTU, Detroit Diesel, or Allison (or willingness to obtain).
  • Basic computer skills for work order systems and documentation.

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly wage based on experience (with potential for overtime).
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
  • Opportunities for ongoing training and certification through OEM programs.
  • Tool purchase programs and other employee perks.
  • Stable, full-time shop role with no regular field travel required.
  • Supportive team environment in a growing organization with a strong reputation for quality service.
