Job Description

At NMG Aerospace our Engineer 1 R & D are accountable for the design, development, qualification and production launch of new products. Participates in project teams utilizing applicable experience and education. Provides technical support for products in a production environment. Often works under the direction of a Product Engineer II or III.

Accountable for the design, development, qualification and production launch of new products. Participates in project teams utilizing applicable experience and education. Provides technical support for products in a production environment. Often works under the direction of a Product Engineer II or III.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develops, qualifies, and improves product designs while ensuring compliance to technical, quality and commercial requirements.
  • Supports technical documentation relative to design & analysis / development & testing / qualification of products.
  • Ensures compliance to engineering codes, practices, and standards.
  • Provides technical support (i.e., troubleshooting production issues).
  • Supports Level II and III engineers in product / project proposals and concept development.
  • Participates in risk identification and mitigation plans.
  • Proficient in use of 3D CAD software to transition design concepts into 3D models & detail drawings.
  • Responsible for product drawing release through CN process for design to spec parts.
  • Supports creating finished drawings with B.O.M. from models / sketches.
  • Supports developing DFMEA and participating in PFMEA activity.
  • Contact person for Quality, Production, and Supply Chain on NPI design to spec products.
  • Support for engineering to production transfer on design to spec parts.
  • Where necessary, will include development and programming of test automation such as PLCs, data acquisition software or similar equipment control and/or automation systems.
  • Performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed.
  • Selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment to meet project / process needs.
  • Performs one or a combination of such typical duties as: constructing components, prototypes, sub-units, or simple models or adaptations of standard equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions as needed to support product development.
  • Manages various tests or experiments that may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures, selecting, setting up and operating standard test equipment, and recording test data with support of Engineering Technician.
  • Extracts and compiles a variety of technical data processes, or computes data using specified formulas and procedures.
  • Performs routine analysis to check applicability, accuracy, and reasonableness of data.
  • Responsible for constructing experimental or prototype models to meet technical requirements.
  • Directs Engineering Technician in design of test fixturing.
  • Assist as required to maintain compliance to industry standards (AS-9100, NADCAP).

Additional Duties:

  • Support ongoing production with troubleshooting, root cause and corrective action analysis as needed
  • Support resolution of supplier quality issues as required.
  • Support customer/regulatory audits as necessary.
  • Support customer complaints & concerns.
  • Other duties, reporting, special assignments, or projects as needed and assigned.
  • Must remain current with, and complete all required training as assigned.
  • Must adhere to Company Corporate EHS Policy and department, occupation, and task specific safety protocols, including but not limited to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 0-5 years design/test engineering experience.
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied functions (i.e., Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, etc.).
  • Hands on troubleshooting & problem solving including statistical analysis.
  • Working knowledge of industry qualification testing requirements such as RTCA-DO-160 or MIL-STD-810
  • Working knowledge of CAD software and 3D printing.
  • Excellent technical, written and oral communication skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
  • Must submit to and satisfactorily pass any pre-employment screening required for employment with the Company.
  • Must take medical exams required by law, in conjunction with occupation specific activities, the physical work environment, and ongoing industrial hygiene sampling results.
  • Depending on assignment, may be required to use stairs, remain upright and/or seated for prolonged timeframes, intermittently reposition the body per various tasks performed, and use various tools and work-related supplies.
  • May be required to perform manual lifting activities, not to exceed a 40lb lift performed by one individual.

Education:

  • Four-year degree in engineering required (mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or manufacturing preferred).
