Engineer, AI Dev Tools

Description

The AI Dev Tools Engineer, is responsible for the design and build of AI-powered tools that accelerate software development across MEDITECH's product portfolio. You will work with large language models, agent architectures, and other platforms to create intelligent assistants that help engineers research codebases, plan implementations, and write production code. This is a full-stack engineering role at the frontier of applied AI for developer productivity. As a member of our Advanced Technology team, your job would involve:

• Designing and implementing AI agents that assist engineers with code research, technical planning, and implementation across multiple development environments
• Building front-end interfaces that enable engineers to interact with AI workflows - including chat interfaces, code review user Interfaces, and integrated development environment extensions
• Developing back-end services that orchestrate agent execution, manage session state, and coordinate multi-step reasoning - deployed as hosted functions or containerized workloads
• Building and maintaining data models that represent source code, documentation, tickets, and development artifacts as queryable, interconnected objects
• Designing data pipelines that ingest, parse, and index large codebases to power semantic search and contextual retrieval
• Integrating external tools and data sources via APIs and protocols such as MCP (Model Context Protocol) to extend agent capabilities
• Creating evaluation frameworks to measure agent quality, identify failure modes, and drive systematic improvement
• Staying current with rapidly evolving AI research and tooling; translate emerging techniques into production capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or associate degree with coursework in a computer programming related field (i.e., Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering)
• 4+ years of experience in software engineering, with production experience building applications powered by large language models
• Full-stack development skills: proficiency in front-end frameworks (React, TypeScript) and back-end development (Python, Node.js, or similar)
• Hands-on experience with agent development, including prompt engineering, tool orchestration, and evaluation frameworks
• Experience integrating APIs and building service architectures; familiarity with protocols for tool/model integration (MCP, function calling, etc.)
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and ship iteratively in a fast-moving domain
• Continuously monitor developments from leading AI research labs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind), evaluate new models and techniques through structured experimentation, and rapidly prototype solutions to assess performance, reliability, and cost tradeoffs in real-world settings.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with engineers across technical domains.

Hiring salary range: $90,000 - $120,000 per year.

Actual salary will be determined based on an individual's skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
